I guess this is really a general question, not vehicle specific. But, I'm asking in regards to my 96 Cherokee. How do I check or know if the tension is correct on the serpentine belt? I think I over-tighten it and end up wrecking the water pump bearings/pulley.

Have a 88 yj with 4.2, standard.. Rins roughon cold start and excessive crank on hot start. Dealer service says metering pins are not moving in and out to regulate air and fuel.. Says the mechanic metered the MCU and it is faulty. New part is $800.

So...about 2 weeks ago I replaced the water pump on my 1985 CJ-7. Since then it has idled a little warmer than usual, or when driving in slow traffic. But still my gauge didn't read that it was "danger" hot, and it would go back down after a bit of faster

Doesn't even crank. Jump start won't work. Voltage meter on the dashboard displays normal voltage (12+). Hasn't happened before. Is it because of bad starter?
