The wife wants me to get shot of "that disgusting heap of scrap" that is in our back yard at present, otherwise known as a 2.25 petrol engine. It's a bit of a non-runner as I have had most of the ancilleries off it, and I was told that the big ends might have gone. It may be ...

| Smoky start | 02 Feb 2005 15:09 GMT | 7 |
I have a 1987 90 with a 2.5 turbodiesel engine. On early morning starts the exhaust shows a moderate amount of (what looks like) oil smoke. The exhaust clears after a short while and remains clear under all types of driving, which I think might exclude the turbo from being the ...

| 300tdi life expectancy | 02 Feb 2005 14:18 GMT | 7 |
Looking at a 96 300tdi disco with 209,000 klms on the clock. Everything was looking pretty good until I started to hear stories about rebuilds being the norm after 300,000. The vehicle appears well looked after and has "supposedly" had oil changes every 5,000 klms.
