locking fuel cap early 90 D20 Aug 2005 13:01 GMT3
I tried to get a locking cap for my early 90 D,but it seems it is a larger
cap than the later ones.
Does a locking cap exist for this type or is it a hasp and staple bodge job
or a filler neck from a later one?
Short in Reversing light circuit20 Aug 2005 11:01 GMT4
As soon as I put the Disco into reverse it blows the fuse for the reversing
lights (and indicators etc).
I have isolated the rear light clusters and the short is not there.
It is chucking it down with rain at the moment so I haven't crawled
Jacking a defender: diff box or middle of the axle?20 Aug 2005 10:52 GMT2
All,
The workshop manual says that a defender should be jacked by its diff boxes,
stating to be careful because these are not centred.  Indeed, when I do
that, I can't seem to be able to lift the opposite wheel without having to
Discovery 2a Gearbox - What warranty ??20 Aug 2005 10:10 GMT20
My 54 plate Discovery 2a TD5  (6500 miles) has a really lousy gearbox.
2nd to 3rd is without schyncromesh 50% of the time and the gear is engaged
with a nasty clunk that allows you to feel the teeth engaging as it kicks
back through the gear lever.

Coming from front propshaft. Sounds metallic so I got underneath with vehicle handbrake on. If I twist
the front propshaft I can get 1/8th turn from it before it makes the exact metallic noise as it meshes
with either the box or the diff. It's had new UJ's in the last few weeks.

Disco - decisions advice please19 Aug 2005 20:10 GMT4
I will try and stay coherent.... a bit long, sorry, but no-one else to talk
to (how sad is that!).
I have a 1995 3.9 V8 ES Auto which I bought with 12000 on the clock in 1996.
Since then I have worked it pretty hard (tow 2 tons all over the place) and
