Demisting in old vehicles!18 Dec 2006 11:21 GMT98
If anyone's going to know this, it's you lot ;-)
What's the best way to demist in an older vehicle?  If heat's not
readily available, opening all the windows and blasting cold air at
the screen seems to help, as the mist appears to be moist air cooling

Solved vibration ...17 Dec 2006 23:42 GMT2
For a couple of months now we've had a sporadic bad vibration, only ever
related to road speed rather than engine speed and got so bad occasionally
the CD player wouldn't.
We'd replaced a CV joint, UJ on rear of front prop-shaft, generally tidied
Knocking sound17 Dec 2006 22:36 GMT26
I have noticed that my TD5 Defender 110 (2002) has a knocking sound
when I pull away in 1st gear. It is also noticeable in second gear. If
I let the clutch out slowly and carefully it doesnt knock.
Is this something to worry about, or do all defenders have this knock?

I am fitting a 300 TDi engine into a 101 and wonder if anyone knows what
thread the unions are on the 300 TDi engine fuel lift pump as everywhere I
have been doesn't recognise them.
90 /Defender Doors wtd...17 Dec 2006 11:40 GMT1
I'm looking for a pair of doors (lift up handle or push button type) to
fit my 90. It's going in for a respray early next year and I like a
pair to replace my current damaged (due to break in) ones.
Preferably as rust free bottoms as possible and with all the
Air blower in 1990 RR Classic17 Dec 2006 11:09 GMT13
The hot/cold air blower runs at settings 2 and 3 only - nothing at
setting 1.   I conclude that the portion of current limiting resistor
used for the slowest speed has burnt out and that the fan is OK.  But I
haven't made any tests with a meter to prove this (yet).   A study of
Autobox take-up clunk16 Dec 2006 17:13 GMT13
The auto box on my Disco 1 V8 clunks quite alarmingly when going from
forward to reverse and vice versa, seems worse when warm. Only started doing
it fairly recently, any ideas what it could be please? Fluid has been
changed fairly recently.
Disco brake's16 Dec 2006 17:04 GMT14
The time has come, the rear brakes on my 3.9 Mreg Disco are
complaining.  A quick look tonight between rain showers/tornados
reveals very very worn pads and buggered discs.  Initial thoughts are
replace discs and pads.  But bearing in mind the age of the car and the

Freeplay on front prop shaft16 Dec 2006 13:29 GMT6
Is it normal to have freeplay in the front propshaft on a 90?
is this the reason for the clunk on take up and during gear changes?
SLS Issue16 Dec 2006 12:49 GMT12
Hi everyone.  I have a 2001 Disco with SLS.  The fault light does not come
on, but the vehicle won't lift.  If I try and put it in ORM, the light just
flashes and never shuts off; the vehicle doesn't rise at all.  Any thoughts?
Much appreciated!!
WTD: seperate electric water temp gauge (without sender)16 Dec 2006 11:58 GMT3
My water temperature guage appears to have blown up (it made some
sparks and blew the fuse!) and no longer seems to want to read
properly (it goes straight to high when powered).
It is a round 52mm TIM one.
