Battery Life - Discovery TD507 May 2007 23:12 GMT8
Could someone indicate how long should bettery in Discovery TD5 last.
I have no power hungry devices installed, live in Australia, thus no winter.
The car is four and a half years old and the other day it wouldn't start,
but it was happy to jump start.
cruise control07 May 2007 23:05 GMT2
My Discovery TD5 S (2000 MY) doesn't have Cruise Control. Does anyone
have any experience of retrofitting who can advise what is needed and
how to do.
Thanks
Smoke diagnosis 2.25 diesel07 May 2007 23:04 GMT3
Getting some smoke that I want help with.
On start and cold, blue/grey smoke - this I think is oil, 'cos its using
a litre every couple of weeks.  I've got a new head gasket set, and will
be replacing everything when I have a free day.  No water loss.
Brake disc removal- How?07 May 2007 23:00 GMT5
Have new discs ready for my RRC but canot remove the old ones.
Tried supporting the disc on blocks and giving the hub an almighty clout
with a lump hammer on a piece of wood after soaking with  wd40 and diesel.
It did not budge a fraction.
Disco steering fault?07 May 2007 22:51 GMT3
My 300 tdi has a rather scary steering fault. When turning hard right
you can "feel" the steering trying to lock up? Sometimes it takes a
fair amount of pressure to bring it back left again. There seems to be
a certain position where it wants to stick.
Decardon front prop.07 May 2007 19:35 GMT3
Anyone know the dimensions of a td5 disco front prop?
The reason I ask is because the fitting of a front salisbury axle now
dictates that one is required.
Failing that, dose anyone know of a company that can make a custom front
BFG MT WTD07 May 2007 17:11 GMT2

spoke? Long shot I know but if you dont ask you dont get.
Can arrange collection from most UK mainland.
Cheers, Roy.
gearbox rework?07 May 2007 12:54 GMT6
My wifes Defender 90 2.5TD gave up with a loud "clonk", no more
transmission :( We gave the Defender to the small workshop where we
have it repaired all the time, and he gave us two possibilities. We
could just get the two damaged parts fixed (see pictures at
Heated Windscreen07 May 2007 11:31 GMT7

The heated screen on my defender still does not work correctly, despite
being back to the garage to be 'Fixed'...
The only way i could think of testing it was with a kettle, so i went
Sunday noon07 May 2007 01:35 GMT7
Well spent most of the afternoon getting a fergie TEF 20  (tractor) stuck up
to it's front axle and recovering same with a combination of 110 and hand
winch and good old hard graft. All this up Pa's field.
Excellent fun.
Stuck piston06 May 2007 23:41 GMT15
I'm just trying to sort out an old Land Rover - it's got a 2 1/4 petrol
fitted to it. It's been stood for 25 years in a garage but the number 3
pistons stuck. Got the head off and dropped the sump but best I've
managed so far is to drive it down a bit.
brake removal06 May 2007 21:35 GMT6
Can anyone tell what the name for the sockets, that are used to remove the
caliper securing bolts are called, The bolt heads are not normal six sided
heads but like an external torx type if that makes sense?
Thanks
Core plug woes....06 May 2007 20:03 GMT6
Me 3.9V8 Disco has been using a bit of water lately.  the good news is it
appears not to be the head gaskets, but one of the core plugs on the
passenger side.
A steady drip drip is coming out of the one behind the engine mounting.  Is

The Defender 110 gets a sympathetic write up in this weeks road test and
gains the approval of the passenger.

FreeLander Sunroof06 May 2007 17:51 GMT4
First let me take back everything I said about not having any Freeland
issues in two years.
This morning the sun roof packed up, in the open position!
After a bit of a crunch the passenger side runner now doesn't move.  I have
