dual battery set-up08 May 2008 18:08 GMT12
I'm confused. There seems different types of dual battery isolators
available. Electronic, diode etc. Some only work with external sensed
alternators. What does all this mean? I have a TD5 Discovery 2 and a second
100ah deep cycle battery. I would like to hook this second battery ...

I used to own a 1986 ex MoD landrover but sold it late last year. I am
thinking about buying a newer one and was wondering what people felt
about the TD6 vs TD5 vs TDi ?

Towing Mirrors - most are now illegal!08 May 2008 11:29 GMT34
All,
Did you know that now all towing mirrors (by law) must be marked E11.
Failure to have either a towing mirror on your car, or an "illegal"
mirror (i.e. NOT marked E11) could lead to 3 points on your licence and
Gearbox woes imminent?08 May 2008 07:29 GMT6
I have a 1990  90 with the original 2.5TD engine. Not sure what the
gearbox or txfer box are but they are original so whatever was standard
for the year. The vehicle has done just over 160k miles.
It's making vibration and rumbling noises which are very similar to the
P38 heater o rings.07 May 2008 21:57 GMT3
Buggery bastard buggering bollocks. I had a trickle of nice hot water in
my drivers side footwell this afternoon, so it's not the aircon.
I've shoved a bottle of radweld in and it's stopped leaking for now, but
anyone done 'em before and have such wonderful experience with 'em ...
Wobbly rev counter on 96 Disco - Fixed07 May 2008 17:57 GMT3
Thank you to Austin, Paul & Tim for your advice - it was indeed the
alternator. 6 months ago I replaced the rear bearing in the
alternator. At the time I noticed that the shaft wasn't an
interferemce fit in the new bearing but didn't have any loctite or
101 rear hub oil seal collar07 May 2008 09:32 GMT8
The hub oil seal has dumped oil on my offside rear brake shoes whilst
the 101 has been parked up. My mate who, wants to borrow it, has
cleaned out the breather and is about to buy and fit a new oil seal.
We'll probably opt for synthetic rubber rather than the original
Parabolic spring problem07 May 2008 08:26 GMT9
Sorry if this has been raised before, i did a search and couldn't find
anything, so here goes.
my mate has just fitted a set of parabolics from Britpart, the fronts were
fine, but the rears have now jacked the back end up 6 inches over standard!

200Tdi Overheating05 May 2008 22:06 GMT8
I have a 1990 110 Defender County, now fitted with a Defender 200TDi.
I have been concerned over the temperature for a while, but whilst it
showed very hot, it wasn't losing water or steaming from the
cap....until this afternoon when after a 90 minute run down the M5/M4
Advice needed05 May 2008 18:48 GMT1
My 300tdi seems to be overheating according to the gauge, but the water is
at the normal temperature, the fan is operating and there are no leaks as I
had a new radiator fitted when the engine was rebuilt.
Can anyone give me an idea of where to look? I'm working on the basis that
I don't like my new toy05 May 2008 11:15 GMT2
Yesterday I went to collect my new P38..it looks lovely.  Paintwork in
good nick, new engine sounds sweet as a nut, switched over to LPG no
problems, on the test drive everything worked as it should, EAS (which
was replaced completely 3 years ago) worked as it should, no

I have a 2002 TD5 defender that has travelled 122,000 km. I am planning a
