For the past several weeks I've been having a problem with the check engine

My local repair shop is great.  They've always done a good job on my

timing belt (and the water pump) on my '97 Miata.  Is there anything
about the job on a Miata that would make it a better idea to have it

I want to remove the Nardi leather shift knob so I can remove the center
section and repair a spring on the cup holder. It will rotate, but does
not go any place. Is it a screw on, or a set screw ?

I had the check engine light on my 2000 Mata  analyzed and the read-out was
"excessive EGR flow" Can anyone tell me if this means something other than a
bad EGR valve? I'm hoping for something simple since it appears that an EGR
valve is about $300. Thanks for your help.
