Who can explain me why are there two almost identical models. They both have

I have a 1980 240d.
I do not drive very much and this is a just "get around town " car.
The problem is that the battery connection has an excessive amount of
corrosion on the terminal. And stops the car for a jump every 6 months or

Fuses are all ok. However, the buzzing noise is coming from a black box
1" x 3" in the fuse box which says 12V/2(4)x21W. I looked it up on mbz.org
and it says multi-function relay for blinker, hazard, wiper and rear window heater.
Doesn't say anything about gauges.

I noticed last winter that one of the boots on one of my ball joints had
ruptured, and accepted the fact that I'd need to replace it.  Now with
warm weather (and some vacation time) I'm ready to replace the ball joints
but the crappy Haynes manual for my '84 300D doesn't mention ...

1986 300 SDL 110K miles.
Today I noticed a slight hum coming from the area above the steering wheel.
The oil pressure, temp, and speedometer guages all are suddenly not working.
Also, the glow light indicator and sound don't come on when starting the car.
