Starter ring gear repair.04 Nov 2004 23:14 GMT1
Has anyone tried repairing a starter ring gear by welding up a new gear with
hard-facing rod and re-machining it? I'm looking at replacing a $350
flywheel if the gear can't be repaired .Unfortunately the gear is integral
to the flywheel so it can't be replaced.

I've been working on improving the clunking from the rear of my 91 560 SEL.
Just replaced the rear shocks and made a significant inprovement in the ride
and noise.  The ball joints atop the shocks were severly worn and creating
considerable noise over pavenment seams and bumps.

What exactly were the changes made to the 2004 Model Year S Class?  Is there
a site I can get the list of changes?
Also, were the headlights also changed in shape or was it only the change to
a clear lens?
Chainsaw oil in Mercedes04 Nov 2004 13:28 GMT2
I saw a thread that implied that using chainsaw oil improved things for a
Mercedes engine. One terrifying statement talked about the oil "glueing".
The reason why a variety of different oils exists is that different engines
and operating conditions demand different qualities for the ...
NOW WHAT?  E320 erratic idle.04 Nov 2004 11:28 GMT2
I have a '94 E320 that has developed an idle that "pulses" from an average
600 rpm up to 750 then down to 500 then it levels out for a while and then
starts the cycle again.  It doesn't die,it doesn't care if it is hot or
cold. It's just the way it is.  Are there any ideas where ...
How to determine value of 1980 300SD04 Nov 2004 03:12 GMT3
Anyone know good resources to see what cars like this are going for? Seems
that in Raleigh, NC the prices you see posted on similar cars are higher
than the Kelley Blue Book value, which doesn't list cars that old anyway.
Only found one in local paper. I've got one with 225k ...

C220 Brakes03 Nov 2004 16:31 GMT4
I noticed that when I brake during highway speeds my wheels shake
indicating the rotors are warped. But it does not shake in city driving. I
know brake systems pretty well and i think the reason it does this is the
pads are rubbing on to the rotors heating them up causing the rotors ...
Tranny behavior03 Nov 2004 15:31 GMT3
Can anyone please help me in identifying the type and operation of A/T in my
'92 500 SEL? It doesn't have any Sport/Economy switch. It has P->R->D->3->2
and a 'B' to the left of '2'. You can supposedly 'lock' the tranny in '2' by
moving it left into the 'B' slot.
