ML-320 high pitched noise11 May 2006 14:13 GMT5
Immediately after starting my ML-320 when it's cold I hear a fairly
loud, high pitched and steady tone which appears to come from either
under the dash or the engine compartment.  When the engine warms up this
"tone" stops abruptly as if it was switched off.  The noise may not

Does anyone have information about the new diesel engine Mercedes is
introducing this Fall? I also understand a new clean burning diesel fuel
will be mandatory in the U.S. in Sept.
Tsk, Tsk.10 May 2006 19:42 GMT5
I suspect many have already seen this, it has been bouncing around the
interweb for a long time; It's the film "C'etait un rendez-vous" By Claude
Lelouche.  The sound is overdubbed, but the film was made by mounting a
camera on the bumper of a 6.9.
New  3.0L V-6 Diesel Fall '06 in 45 states10 May 2006 19:10 GMT5
Apparently the super clean "BlueTec" (urea injection) 50 state diesel
will be available in Fall '08; meanwhile, a 45 state (soot trap version)
will be sold starting Fall '06. This motor makes 224 HP @ 3,800 rpm and
376 ft lbs of torque at 1,600 rpm. Torque matches a big, 5.0L ...
High-octane fuel largely a waste of time10 May 2006 14:22 GMT15
I hope you all don't mind the cross-post, but..
...For those who still doubt it, using fuel of greater octane than
officially
recommended is largely a waste of time/money:
CLK 240 - Battery access10 May 2006 12:25 GMT2
2004 CLK 240 Auto
After locating the Battery hiding under a black rectangular plastic
box with 'Air Conditioner' on it (it looks like an air filter to me) I
am unable to fully unclip it to gain access to the Battery terminals.
190E differential leak10 May 2006 06:39 GMT10
My local Merc dealer is charging GBP 420 incl 17.5% tax for fixing a
differential leak on a 1993 190E.
Parts are trivial, it's the labour of just over 3 h (@ GBP 92 + tax).
What do you guys reckon?

Air cleaner ideas for a Mercedillac?09 May 2006 13:25 GMT6
What do you guys like for low-profile air cleaners where hood clearance
is an issue?  It's on a Chevy 305 with a Holley 4160 in a 1972 Mercedes
280SE. It looks like anything over a 2" filter on a standard assembly
will cause the wing nut to rub on the roof.  If i go with a dropped
Brake Problem  -  '87 420SEL09 May 2006 13:19 GMT5
Two months ago I had the front brake pads and rotors replaced.  The brakes
had worked well up to that time, and I had been getting 50K miles or so
between brake pad changes.
Then starting a couple days after the new pads and rotors were installed the

The odometer on my friend's 280SE does not work.  The speedometer is fine.
Anyone have any clues?
How to continuously scan radio?09 May 2006 00:54 GMT1
Now do you continuously scan the radio on a 2002 E-320?  It's probably
the same for most late models but I can't find anything in the Users
Manual.  All it talks about is using the push buttons.
Thanks,
