I recently have had the onset of the trunk not unlocking with the door
keys when I unlock the driver's door.  Eventually, it did open after
jostling with the trunk lid for awhile, and I placed some stuff in the
trunk that I need to access NOW.  So, the keys that I have for the auto

Odometer - 260 E14 Aug 2006 03:38 GMT4
I have a 1989 260E which has just completed 260,000 kilometres.
However, a few weeks ago, the odometer and trip meter stopped operating.
My mechanic says the odometer will have to be taken out and sent away for
repair - which in Mercedes speak sounds expensive!

I hit a deer with my '91 300D 2.5 the other day, necessitating
replacement of the grille.  I have the new part on hand, but I
can't figure out how to get the old grille off.  (I Googled this
newsgroup's archives for tips before posting, but the only advice
Does anybody like roundabouts?13 Aug 2006 18:54 GMT29
In my area roundabouts are rare but when I
venture to areas that have them I find them
very difficult - especially when they are used
for fairly fast traffic.

W202 diesel E220 vs E30013 Aug 2006 13:39 GMT1
Im considering a ten year old E-class for my dad. Therefore would like
to know if the engines are different in terms of durability and ease of
repair? The 220 seems to have manual gear and lower consumption though.
Any other differencies?
1974 240d13 Aug 2006 09:36 GMT1
I just bought a 1974 240d.  Beautiful car, but the rear passenger-side
female end of the seat belt is broken.  Anybody have any suggestions
about where to find this part?  Thanks for any ideas.  We're about to
have kid #2 so I really need it.
Multiple reality check needed - water pump and ac compressor13 Aug 2006 09:13 GMT5
(1987 300E)
I had a not entirely unexpected water pump failure today. The needle
touched the red line for perhaps 30 seconds before I could get safely
off the road.
Auto trans shifter stick goes clanka clanka13 Aug 2006 07:13 GMT5
On a very long trip my 88 190 E, after changing the gears on my auto stick
shift while at a stop sign started to sound as if it is hitting the drive

something under there is hitting something intermitently. ...

Marathon drive13 Aug 2006 00:05 GMT4
Not planned as such, but I made a long non-stop road trip recently in
my CLX.  When I reached home I found that I had driven 410 miles in
about 7 hours.  The MB comfort had made it an easy task.
Later I realised that it must be the longest continuous drive I have
clogged diesel injector pump11 Aug 2006 19:43 GMT9
My "friend" mixed some inadequately filtered veggie oil with diesel in
the tank of his 1982 300D turbo.  The car ran fine in the drive for 20
