Pursuant to earlier posts regarding the perennial debates about oil, today I put in a new oil filter and added Amsoil Flush, ran according to instructions, then dropped oil, changed to a new filter again, and replenished with Amsoil 15-40.

My 2002 E430 has developed missing segments on the LCD on the clock and temp read-outs. Sometimes they are all on and sometimes are not. Is this a common problem? How do I remove the instrument panel to check on the connections?

I'm a DIY guy but new to diesel. I just got an 84 300sd in great shape that I want to run on veggie oil. I want to do regular compression tests on the engine to make sure I'm not hurting the engine. I've never done a compression test. Is it a big deal to do at home?

I'm looking at a few '80s-era 300SD cars. I'm finding that there would need to be some work on the interior. I've done this for Chevy trucks and found quite a range of parts aftermarket available. Is there such a thing for Mercedes cars? Also - for the W126

How do I remove the "seat cover" from the driver's seat? I have removed the screws at the lower edge of the rear panel, however the upholstery appears to be secured at the side hinges. I need to get inside to find out why moving the seatback keeps blowing

Has anybody any ideas on how to fix this? I am only getting 10 mpg city. It is a 4.2 litre - I plan to change and inspect the plugs, and replace the distr. cap and rotor tomorrow. I can smell the gas at idle. Where do I go from here please?
