anyone else noticed any water in the 307 spare tyre well & what causes it?

Hi, hope someone may have an idea about this...
My 306 XR (1994) has developed a small problem.
The rev counter is reading intermittently, but the speedo works fine.
For example, i will be driving along, or idling and the needle will read say

At 27,000 miles the timing belt on my 1996 406 failed and did a fair bit of
damage.  The car should have been recalled due to a known problem on the
earlier models but had been missed so Peugeot footed the bill.  The car has
now done 55,000 miles and my question is should I change ...
