Probably a wide topic but here goes. I know that you would expect a diesel engine to go for many miles (2001 HDI has done 97k already and shows no signs of wear yet) but what things should I be aware of for regular maintenance/wear.

My ABS light has come on and i paid someone ?40 to tell me its a seatbelt pretensioner. So I got one. Havent changed it yet but now im told even if i change it i must get the guy back to reset the light. And then it may be the wrong side so he has to come back again!!

I have just had a timing belt and water pump replaced on my 1998 Peugeot, I did ask them to replace the alternator drive belt too but notice that this has not been done, does this matter? The charge was ?250, is this a fair price?

For the last 4 weeks I have been topping up my water with at least 2 pints every week, I average about 500 miles a week and am sometimes caught in traffic for lengthy spells, so I am not sure if this ammount of water top up per week is normal. I cannot find any leaks anywhere either ...

The heater doesn't work on my 306 D Turbo (N reg). Some folk tell me the heating system needs bleeding - I've bled the two screw valves on the water pipes (one behind the rocker cover and one to the side) but still no heat from the heater.

I havre a leak in a pipe under the battery. Its on a joint and an aircon specialist got a price of ?300 for the pipe. Plus labour and gas etc its a ?500 job at least. Not sure if its worth it at that price. Any suggestions for aircon pipes?
