I've just bought '96 saab 9000 cse 2.3 turbo, 200.000km. Car is in good condition except one small sound that i'm afraid of. I can hear it every time I run engine, and after few kilometers it disappears. It apperas every time I start engine.

A lot of GM cars are said to be built on the same platform. (Malibu, Grand Am, Alero) What does that mean? Why do cars built on the same platform seem to vary so much in build and design quality?
