I have a '96 SL base model I bought new a decade ago. It has a manual transmission and AC. It now has 140K on the clock and still gets me around just fine, and with gas at 3 bucks a gallon, I like the fact that I get 37 MPG in rush hour highway traffic.

I just spoke to the shop manager at a Saturn dealer here in town (Columbus, OH) and he said that SW1 & 2 clutches are very durable but extremely expensive to replace. He said that "you need to take the transmission apart" and quoted something like $1,300 for the job!

| Transmission questions. Dont want my mechanic to know how oblivious I am. | 18 Apr 2006 14:25 GMT | 4 |
Bought a 98 SL2 w/108k. I'm not mechanically inclinded, have been ripped off by a variety of mechanics ( thats a fact, not bitter paranoia or delusions). So, I've been trying to educate myself a wee bit before taking the Saturn into a shop.
