New Book- Some Thoughts on Restoring a Studebaker25 Jun 2006 18:40 GMT4
For anybody that is interested, I finally made a book out of the
articles I wrote for Turning Wheels in the early 90s- the material has
been updated, much has been added. If you're considering a first
restoration, or if you are looking at rebuilding a Studebaker engine,

hi again,
well, it's pouring down rain today so instead of turning wrenches I'm
trying to catch up with all my parts ordering...  only thing really
keeping me from dropping the engine back in my car is the

Power Steering hard lines25 Jun 2006 09:49 GMT1
The good thing about this Heidt's steering pressure control valve is you can
run hard lines straight from the rack to it and then regular ps hoses from
the valve to the ps pump. Makes hooking up the hoses a lot easier.

In the tech section, someone asks about putting a 57 Golden Hawk drive train
in a modified 54 V8. One thing they recommended was to use the 57 rear end
as it was much stronger. I thought they both used the 44 rear end?

Need gas tank for my Sky Hawk24 Jun 2006 23:16 GMT8
Feel really stupid about this. . . I had my gas tank all preped and really
for paint when I decided to get a few simple  push in dents out of the
bottom of the gas tank. So remembering that someone on the newgroup mention
about using air to remove dents from gas tanks I thought I ...

scary job not so scary24 Jun 2006 20:11 GMT2
I was obsessing about my fan clutch, it had a stripped hole where the
fan bolts on.  Finally today I decided to just do it, drilled the hole
(and another one that looked kind of shaky) to the size for the
Helicoil tap, then tapped the holes.  Now these are blind holes so I

My Transtar turned 50 this year like me but I turn 5O much earlier in the
year. <G> And now the Transtar on the way home is going to turn over 100,000
miles.  Only 8 miles to the big event and if road timing is right I will be
snapping pictures of the last tenth of a mile along ...

Replacing Rings In Car?24 Jun 2006 07:21 GMT9
OK, I've been fighting a smoking/oil consumption problem with the ('63)
289 in our convertible. I believe the valve guides/seals are OK. I've
isolated the problem to one cylinder (right front), but the compression
is fine in that cylinder.
