Is it a bad idea to have shims under the expansion tank on my Avanti?these shims were on the driverside,will this lead to hood clearance problems?we are talking close to 3/8" shim. thanks for any help!

Greetings from a one time owner of a 1953 V8 Commander hardtop. I bought it used in '55 and had it until I seriously wrecked it in '59. Mine was white with a red roof and I called it "Red Raymond". We all named our cars in those days.

Am painting the 1958 Golden Hawk back to it's original white gold metalic with white fins and roof. Does anyone know what white I should use? It seems as though a bright white, like a corvette white would not be correct. Thanks!
