| 2003 Forester (MT) brake pedal woes | 30 Mar 2005 20:04 GMT | 4 |
To get rid of my 2004 Civic Si, whose ride was too harsh for my 71-year- old bones, I swapped it for a 2005 Accord for my wife so I could grab her 2003 Forester with manual transmission. The Forester is quite as much fun to drive as the Civic Si, and more

| 96 OBW overheating | 30 Mar 2005 18:56 GMT | 3 |
My 96 OBW with 178k miles overheats. When I start it up I hear liquid "gurgling" behid the dash. I find anti-freeze spilled around the radiator cap. I just replaced the radiator cap. Should I now be flushing something else besides the radiator and should I install a 170

| Idling at 3000rpm? | 30 Mar 2005 07:18 GMT | 4 |
A few times in the recent past (it doesn't happen all of the time), I've had a situation where I'd coldstart my 2000 OBW in the morning and it's idle speed would be 3000rpm! Now this has happened a couple of times despite the fact that it was sitting in a heated garage overnight. ...

| mileage question | 30 Mar 2005 04:33 GMT | 6 |
I am buying a Legacy OBW 2000 which has 123K miles on it. That's an average of 28,000 miles per year. Is such a high mileage (for a 5 year old subaru) considered bad?

| 1988 Subaru axle change | 30 Mar 2005 01:44 GMT | 1 |
I need to change out the driver's side front axle. Is there anything special needed, other than a hydraulic press for the bearings, that a home machanic should be aware of? TIA

| Fuel consumption | 30 Mar 2005 01:25 GMT | 9 |
I have an '05 Forester with a bit over 3K miles on the clock. I drive about 60% secondary, and 40% highway. With 4 fillups at the same station, and pump, I average 25.6 mpg.

| '85 GL Turbo value? | 29 Mar 2005 22:58 GMT | 1 |
I recently acquired a very nice '85 GL 4X4 sedan. The car has the EA82T (turbo) engine, power everything including the factory sun-roof, and (alas) an automatic tranny. Factory cassette and all speakers still sound good. Only has 66K miles on it, and aside

| Mustang vs. WRX | 29 Mar 2005 19:25 GMT | 9 |
Hi all. Is there anyone of you significantly drove both a Mustang GT and a WRX? I have a 96 GT and I'm thinking of changing it for a 02-04 WRX Sedan. I live in Quebec and my Mustang is too stiff for our freaking horrible roads. So is the WRX would ride smoother?

| 1988 Subaru GL starting problem | 29 Mar 2005 16:52 GMT | 4 |
This car has the 1.8L engine. The timing belt on the passenger side stripped. I replaced it, taking care to use the correct marks on the flyweel; the three unlettered marks, and using the center one. The marks on the camshaft sprockets were lined up with the marks on the

| Just bought a 1998 Forester S | 29 Mar 2005 13:20 GMT | 7 |
We just bought a 1998 Forester S. It has 160,000, which I hope will not be a big issue. It seems in very good condition, no rust which I can see and the engine passed Pennsylvania emissions. It does seem to hesitate when accelerating, although I am comparing it to a 2004 Forester ...

| Slight amount of smoke from engine area | 29 Mar 2005 08:41 GMT | 6 |
Folks, Just bought a 2nd hand 1996 Subaru Legacy 250T. All seems to run very nicely, however I have noticed that there seems to be a small amount of smoke coming from the engine bay. Not a huge amount, but enough to see

Does anyone know how to do either or both? Thanks.

| Longevity of tires | 28 Mar 2005 20:38 GMT | 15 |
I've bought a new Forester last August. I've seen some posts here disparaging the tires. I'm pretty undemanding, so they work fine for me. OTOH, I'm troubled by reports of them wearing out in 30,000 or fewer miles.

| More Subaru's found | 28 Mar 2005 20:19 GMT | 25 |
Earlier today I revisited the repo show and found many many more subaru's available. Everything from the Outback Ltd Ed to the LL Beans to the forresters and standard legacy's. What attracted my attention was a 2002 Forrest green/titatium color Outback 5 spd manual. The asking ...
