| How the check engine light (CEL) gets illuminated | 07 Apr 2005 13:41 GMT | 2 |
I just talked to a service guy at Subaru and he said: Every time you start the car, it does a full diagnostic and if any sensor is out of its valid range the CEL will be illuminated. The CEL does not store its state between car starts.

| Dog ate my seatbelts | 07 Apr 2005 13:35 GMT | 11 |
For some reason, my dog decided that both front seatbelts looked delicious and managed to chew them up in about 20 minutes last night. (He's never chewed anything before so I'm still wondering why this happened)

| What does the ECU control in a 1988 GL turbo engine? Details? | 06 Apr 2005 23:29 GMT | 3 |
I've just had to replace the ECU in a 1988 GL -- everything else checked OK but the actual ECU, in the end, and it was that or see the car junked since it wasn't within my reach to intervene. So I funded the work to get the car.

Hi all, I own a 2003 forester xs and have 16,500 miles. The dealer wanted to perform a 15K miles service which included changing the trani fluid. Should I have the trani fluid changed with only 16,500 miles? Also, is the best place to have it done at the dealer or could any ...

I'm driving a '96 Legacy wagon, my first Subaru and it's been a great car. I don't know much about automotive service, but I prefer the idea of doing things myself, rather than pay someone, when it's a simple fix. (So far the only thing I've ventured to do myself is replace the ...

| 2K Outback Head Gasket Fixed, Don't trust dealer. | 05 Apr 2005 23:43 GMT | 4 |
My 2000 Outback with 75,000 miles went in last week for warranty work for a leaking left side head gasket. No charge for the work which was great, but the work order shows 4 hours labor charged to the job. Speaking with my usual mechanic I would have expected more time to ...

| Fuel Injection Cleaning - - Waste? | 05 Apr 2005 17:12 GMT | 8 |
I'm taking my OBS in for it's 60k maintenance service and I know the dealer will be suggesting that I spend $120.00 (with coupon) to clean my fuel injectors. Am I wrong to balk at that service? Won't a $5 additive that I buy at the store do the same thing?

| Forester XT Turbo question (USA) | 05 Apr 2005 08:50 GMT | 9 |
Is the turbo always in operation, as when just cruising at steady city or highway speeds, or does it only come into operation when you hit the gas pedal hard, as in rapid accelleration, passing etc ??? How about slowly accellerating from a traffic light versus getting
