Subaru AWD Fuel Consumption question05 Apr 2005 03:27 GMT26
I am contenplating the purchase of a pre-owned (2002)

his Subie with a VW Beetle as he'll be in an "over 55"
How to open fuel door 1989 XT605 Apr 2005 03:10 GMT4
Hi everyone, stupid question time...
We just bought a 1989 XT6 today, got it home, and can't figure out how
to open the fuel door. We've scoured the entire car looking for the
button that opens it. We can't find any free schematics or owner's
Brake Service on Subaru05 Apr 2005 01:24 GMT1
My 2002 OBS is about due for its first break job (front and rear).  I plan
on keeping it until it falls apart.  Is it wiser to take it to a break
specialty shop for new brakes rather than the dealer?  If so, which
franchise do you recommend? I'm under the impression that ...
True AWD05 Apr 2005 00:49 GMT28
I took my Forester to a shop once to check for a nail on my rear tire. I
watched the mechanic as he was turning the rear tire of the jacked car and
looked nails. I saw the front tire turning too.
People said lots of the cars on the road are not TRUE AWD cars. Even the
Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF for 4AT Subaru Outback 200204 Apr 2005 22:02 GMT10
Here is my observation re. synthetic ATF transmission oil.
I had problem with rough shifting on my Outback 2002 4AT 2.5L. I tried
changing transmission oil (petroleum) before but that didn't help so I
looked into synthetic oil and discovered the following after the change:

Last call, '84 subie GL wagon for parts, for free04 Apr 2005 06:13 GMT6
Last call, '84 GL wagon, 4WD, auto, PS. Motor's out, rest of
drivetrain still there including rear diff. Glass is out,
dash removed but most parts still there except heater core.
The car, or whatever parts you want, are free. Bring tools,
Mixing gas ok ?03 Apr 2005 22:22 GMT50
Gas here in GA is up to $2.25 for premium. Is mixing 50% 83 with 50% 93 ok
for a WRX ?

Outback 'whistles' at higher RPMs03 Apr 2005 18:58 GMT5
My 2001 outback (45k miles) makes a whistle sound at about 3700+
RPMs.  I only get this when passing on the interstate or on hills.
Passengers have describing the sound as coming from the rear of the car,
which points to the exhaust.  However alternative theories are that the
Ventilation stuck on "heat"02 Apr 2005 23:50 GMT2
I have a1994 Impreza. Its ventilation system puts out only hot air, no
matter how I fiddle with the temp and ventilation selector knobs. A/C, vent,
doesn't matter - I get the same hot air all the time.
Enginte temp gauge reads normal. Oil and coolant seem OK.
wimpy horn02 Apr 2005 22:29 GMT7
OK, I feel silly asking this, but has anyone replaced a horn on a
Subaru? This horn is whiny and not very loud.

Reset the ECU?02 Apr 2005 11:42 GMT13
According to my 04 Forester service manual the 24000km service includes
resetting the ECU. When I asked the my Subaru Service Manager if this was
done he said they generally do not reset the ECU unless there are problems,
this is a learning computer and will correct itself as ...
Finally got to drive in the snow02 Apr 2005 07:19 GMT14
I needed to get home last night from Lake Tahoe along US-50
West.  It was clear for several days when it started snowing.
Pretty much the only cars that were let through were 4WD or
AWD.  A chain installer set up shop just before the Caltrans
