Have a three week old 2.5I Legacy with AT. The last few days the morning

the mechanic for my old pathfinder was an hour away and i had to wait
around till mid afternoon, so when i bought my 2000 obw, i wanted to
find someone closer.   so a good friend and trustworthy car guy

What is the benefit of upgrading the ECU, other than more power?  What are
the risks?  Is this only for turbos or can non-turbos benefit also? I'm just
trying to see if there's anything worth considering on my 98 Forester...
