We own a 1999 Subaru Forester. Recently the battery failed and I replaced
it. After the battery was replaced, the car now has a rough idle, surging
between 600rpm & 1000 rpm. Before the battery was replaced, it idled fine.

I just notice an interesting behavier of the engine on my 04 obw with 12700
km, when I pump the break paddle and the rpm will goes up from the idle of
around 550 to around 850 ~ 900 it will lasted for about 2 seconds and drops
down back to 550 rpm. Does that indicate something ...

I was always told as a teenager by my old man to turn off the A/C before
shutting off the engine, and more importantly to make sure it was off before
cranking it up to prevent damage (to what?).  Can anyone confirm this or is
it rumor?  I could perhaps see the logic at start-up ...
