Right now I am just looking for possible advice on the potential causes of this problem in my 1998 Subaru Outback. I was recently returning from a trip to the bay area from Reno and had quite the scare. I was driving on the freeway when all of a sudden the fifth gear just let

| Outback/Forester or Volvo XC70 - which one is better | 28 Mar 2006 14:20 GMT | 4 |
Consumer Reports gives lots of praise to Subaru, less so to Volvo. Higher-end Outbacks are priced similarly to Volvo XC70 : low- to mid- $30Ks. It seems the Outback is more reliable than the Volvo...but besides reliability how do these compare? Which one is a better car?

| 2002 Forester L Question | 28 Mar 2006 14:00 GMT | 3 |
I've started looking for a used vehicle and have seen a couple of 2002 Forester L and taken one for a drive. I'm interested in the 4 cylinder auto model to save gas and the one I drove seems to be fast enough for the highway.

| 05 Forester vs. 06 Forester (including LL Bean) | 28 Mar 2006 13:25 GMT | 1 |
I'm in the market for a Forester and am leaning heavily towards an LL Bean. I don't care about the 6 CD Changer, Moonroof, etc. but leather seats are important to me as well as the winter features such as the windshield wiper defrosters. I know I may be able to look at a older

| Starter inquiry .... '05 RS wagon | 28 Mar 2006 05:48 GMT | 1 |
The starter sounds like a cheap little thing ...Compaired to the '91 Loyale that I own ( I relize that they're different motors,) but is it normal that it sounds "tinny", before it starts. It does start everytime . I'm almost not tempted to "Show it off to freinds"

| Hesitation on 2006 Outback 3.0 VDC wagon | 28 Mar 2006 03:38 GMT | 9 |
I've noticed a lot of times when I'm getting quite a bit of hesitation in pressing on the accelerator. This happens especially when I slow to take a corner, then push on the gas once past. Sometimes, this hesitation is VERY dramatic, and, I pulled out into a lane with an ...

We've got a good 1999 Legacy OBW with about 87,000 miles that has a leaking oil pump. We're gonna get this replaced under the extended warranty, and I want to change out the timing belt while the techs are in the area. This vehicle has the Phase I engine, though, and I

| Leaking Head Gaskets | 27 Mar 2006 17:51 GMT | 4 |
Hi - I just found this group after looking for some info about leaking head gaskets. I have a 2004 Legacy GT Limited that has 44kms on it. I took it in for a regular service and the mechanic said that both of the head gaskets are leaking. I had no indication of this (ie no

| Can you turn off ABS by pulling the fuse? | 27 Mar 2006 17:27 GMT | 38 |
I've never had a car with ABS, and my new/used Outback has it. I really hate it. Can I turn it off by pulling the fuse? I'm aware of the safety aspect, but IMO I feel I can do a better job myself.
