Fuel Injection Cleaning Recommended - worth it?05 Jul 2006 19:41 GMT10
I took my '97 Legacy Outback into a local gas station for an oil change
today, and the mechanic noticed something that has been happening to me
for a while. Sometimes when slowing down to a stop or speeding up from
a stop, my enginer will shudder slightly and I experience a drop in
DIY Timing Belt Replacement05 Jul 2006 04:03 GMT5
I replaced timing belt on my 2002 Forester yesterday. Only problem I
had was removing crank pulley.  I tried  conventional methods (strap
wrench/breaker bar), but could not budge bolt. I searched NG and
learned about the bumping starter method. I was very leary of this
Power Steering Pump question04 Jul 2006 19:33 GMT6
I have a 97 Outback that the local garage told me will likely need a
new power steering pump in the next 5 months or so.  He said it is
whining now, and will fail.  He wants $575 to replace it.
Can anyone out there tell me:
Forester Driver Seat Uncomfortable04 Jul 2006 17:29 GMT11
I've had my new Forester X Premium less than a week. One of
the things I now notice that I didn't notice on the test
drive is that the drivers seat back is sometimes a bit
uncomfortable.  It seems to be harder in some places than
90 loyale - transmission fluid?04 Jul 2006 15:22 GMT4
I just bought a 90 loyale wagon with automatic transmission, and I've
been told to make sure the transmission fluid is not too low. I am not
at all mechanically inclined, my friend helped me figure out which
might be the dipstick for it, and I bought some fluid and poured some
1999 Forester 2.5 L-spark plug change-need info04 Jul 2006 13:32 GMT4
According to my Haynes Manual (1990-1998 Legacy) the right side plugs
can be replaced from under the car but for the left (driver) side the
battery and coolant reservoir must be removed to change the plugs.
Is this correct? Does anyone have experience changing the plugs on a
98 Forester - P074004 Jul 2006 05:00 GMT4
We had our local dealer replace the transmission in our 1998 Forester
with a used one with 60,000 miles.  The dealership apparently test drove
the Sub with no problems.  We we picked up the vehicle we received a
check engine light.  We took the Forester back.  The dealership ...
2001 Outback LTD front end noise04 Jul 2006 03:08 GMT1
I drove my wife's 2001 OBW Ltd and noticed a "grinding" noise when turning
left, only.  I did a very preliminary check and saw nothing obvious although
I could feel the noise being transmitted to some of the suspension when we
turned the wheel in a parked position.  My first thought ...
Tire Pressure Monitor - Catch-22?04 Jul 2006 01:42 GMT9
I ran into this problem and wondered if anyone else has hit it too:
Had 4 new tires put on my 2005 Outback wagon, LLBean model so it has
the tire pressure monitors on each wheel. Tire dealer was very specific
about having appropriate equipment and training to deal with the TPMs
Replacing rear Brakes03 Jul 2006 22:27 GMT14
When I had my oil changed at the dealership (can't beat the $15 cost) I was
told the rear brakes need to be replaced via the multipoint inspection
lookover.  I was quoted $450 for rear brake rotors and brake pads.
Obviously that is waaaay overpriced for my wallet so I'm ...
Pedal to the metal squeaking03 Jul 2006 17:10 GMT2
My 1997 legacy outback wagon (auto) makes an odd squeaking sound if I
accelerate very quickly. I first noticed it a week or so ago when I
tried to get on an on-ramp and floored it. The car makes no abnormal
noises if I accelerate normally. My friend listened and thought maybe a
'05 Forester Code P013103 Jul 2006 15:22 GMT3
In damp/rainy weather my car had difficulty starting and ended up with the check engine light on/cruise automatically disabled. Subaru rec replacing the A/F & O2 sensor relay. But dealer later said they didn't replace the O2 relay because the code for it wasn't tripped

can I buy a CV-joint without axle?03 Jul 2006 05:32 GMT4
Two questions:
Can I buy a CV-joint without axle? This would be for 2002 Impreza 2.5
TS. Dealer wants about $230 per set (whole half axle).
Is the rebuilding the CV-joint worth the effort (someone wants $60 per
Forester Windshield Edge Coating ?02 Jul 2006 19:10 GMT7
I just picked up a 2006 Forester X (USA)  There is black
trim coating around edge of the windshield with a larger
area covered at the top center, behind the mirror.  Does
anyone know if this material is conductive? I would like to
