Free PC based car performance logger.19 Sep 2006 12:16 GMT1
I was browsing an aussie  suzuki group and found free software with
source code  to make a performace logger for a car. Seems quite simple
and cheap to make. Does standing start acceleration in increments of 10
km/h or mph and distance too, Check here

Struck by leaky headgasket on `01 OBW19 Sep 2006 03:26 GMT9
Well it looks like it was a good thing I delayed my 90k service by a few
weeks.  Last week I noticed that there was a brief  'sweet' smell coming
from the drivers side area under the hood.  I noticed it once after driving
the car and then it seemingly went away.  Well I got down ...

Replaced E20 engine in Legacy GT. All now running great but ABS light is
permanently on. Quoted £64 from dealer to just diagnose.
Is there any way of resetting ABS system to see if  light clears? Fuse box

Keyless entry for Forester18 Sep 2006 01:30 GMT2
hi group.
Have a 2001 Sub forester.  It has power locks, how would I go about getting
a keyless entry for it.  Would it require some type of servo hooked up to
drivers power lock?..
Alternator shot at 55k in '01 OBW17 Sep 2006 23:01 GMT1
The red light went on, and the dealer said I needed a new one. No headline here,
but I put about 200,000 miles on each of my two preceding cars without this. Is
it common for an alternator to go so soon?
IAC, the red light went on when I was 30 miles from home (and in Canada no
Best spark plugs for `01 OBW.17 Sep 2006 01:17 GMT9
Hey all,
I asked the dealership the other day what the best spark plug was to use for
my 90k servicing.  I told them I had saw the Bosch Platinum 4+ which had 4
grounding terminals to create better spark.  I was told that was a bad
Contributing car to charity17 Sep 2006 00:05 GMT5
My 96 OBW with 178,000 and a blown headgasket is no longer worth
keeping.  As I would expect very little if anything as a trade-in, can
anyone recommend a reputable charity to give the car to.  I am in the
NYC area.  Thanks.
obdii16 Sep 2006 19:44 GMT4
Hi group.
Thinking of getting an OBDII reader.  I understand Subaru might have
different protocols as compared to your standard OBDII reader.  Can anyone
recomend a reader that is compatible with Subaru..Specifically a 2001

Hard starting 94 Legacy15 Sep 2006 15:33 GMT5
I borrowed a family members 94 Legacy to fix a repeatedly dying
battery.  Easy fix; the 'parking lights always on' button was toggled
on.  However, after charging the battery the 'check engine light' came
on and car was hard to start.  It cranks fine but won't start on the
Why flush brake system?15 Sep 2006 14:06 GMT27
They tell me that I need to flush my brake system and coolant system.
Both of these systems are closed!  Why would you need to flush a closed
system. They are not under the same pressure and abuse as oil, I change
my oil every 3000 miles.  Those other "flushes" sound like a way for
oil burning realted, engine health checking14 Sep 2006 05:40 GMT10
After writing previous post decided to ask one more question.
I noted that after 5K miles of running on dealer changed oil my 85K
miles 2002 Outback takes some oil. Had to add about 3/4 quart today.
Changing the oil anyway tomorrow but wanted to know how bad it is so
