Question regarding temporary use spare tire18 Mar 2007 16:43 GMT1
I had to fix my third flat in about 18 months today, and that got me
thinking: How many times/miles are the temporary use spare tiress in
Subarus good for (I'm driving a '99 OBW)?  I'm sure I put more than the 50
miles I've heard they are rated for on it over those last three trips ...
95 Outback transmission noise18 Mar 2007 15:47 GMT1
Relatively new to small cars in general and have no subaru knowledge
at all.  Recently acquired a 95 Outback with 5 spd manual
transmission.  The cars has +200K miles.  There is a strange and
fairly loud noise on downshifting and decelaration.  Other than that
Checking spare tire pressure in US 2005 Forester XT18 Mar 2007 02:00 GMT10
The full size spare tire in the US '05 Forester is mounted with the
valve stem facing downward. I see it has to be this way to take
advantage of the depression in the rim to hold the circular storage
caddy..
03 Subaru repairs question17 Mar 2007 16:01 GMT2
I'm new to the group and have been reading the group's posts for a
while. I just purchased a used 03' Subaru Forester X with 53,900 miles
on it from an individual seller. The car was inspected by a mechanic
prior to purchase and is in good condition. In addition, it has
4WD noise from front end ,2000 Subaru outback wagon17 Mar 2007 04:01 GMT14
i got super snow tires on all four wheels....and now on bare pavement
I get vibration from front end when turning corners at slow
speeds. ....would this be because of the sticky tires? or do I have to
grease,oil something in the transmission 4WD ???
Got my Impreza today!16 Mar 2007 17:14 GMT2
I am soooo impressed with this car. I'm totally loving the handling,
power, etc. What a change from my old domestic car. Night and day. I
even drove a WRX Sti to see what that was like. Lets just say I am now
addicted to the turbo spooling  up sound and the whooosh through

Tire wear mystery15 Mar 2007 16:46 GMT12
Newly bought 2001 Outback 5-speed, 125K miles.
I have a tire mystery.
When I bought it, the car had two like-new tires, and two mostly
finished tires with feathered sawtooth wear pattern and patchy flat
Gas mileage in my '03 OBW15 Mar 2007 15:27 GMT28
Well, I'm somewhat disappointed in the gas mileage I've gotten so far
in my OBW. The mfr's sticker when I bought the car said it gets 22/28
city/highway. I have a '03 OBW, 4-cylinder 2.5, automatic. After my
first fill-up, I've been keeping an eye on the tripometer (reset to 0
My Subaru enthusiasm has been dampened15 Mar 2007 14:31 GMT14
Took my 99 OBW (2.5L) to the dealer for some regular service at
130,000.  The car has been very well maintained and garaged.  I was
told that the cam and crank seals are leaking (they were already
replaced at 105,000 miles), there's a slight transmission leak and the
All-wheel-drive and low traction14 Mar 2007 15:27 GMT23
I was reading that the AWD works better to maintain traction when the
wheels have more power going to them, but in ice and snow people often
recommend that you use a higher gear. Is there any contradiction here?

2001 Forester - lower gas milage with ComforTread14 Mar 2007 04:15 GMT6
I installed GoodYear ComforTread on my 2001 Forester recently. Before that,
gas milage in city used to be ~20 mpg. But after I installed the new tires,
it became ~18 mpg. Is this normal? Or maybe the tires were installed
incorrectly?
