Getting the 2003 LLbean outback30 Sep 2007 03:01 GMT2
I put down a dep. on a 2003 55Kmile LLbean outback.
They are a tad anemic, wonder how much the geegaws and frooferall
weigh?
Anyway, my purchase is contingent on the usual list of little things
SOHC EJ25: Valve stem seals?30 Sep 2007 02:43 GMT16
My (Oz-built) '99 outback (US Legacy/liberty) is smoking like a
chimney. Engine is SOHC (phase-2?)
It seems to be valve stem related.

Can keyless entry be hacked?29 Sep 2007 03:27 GMT5
A month ago I bought a keyless remote for my '01 OBW and the service manager was
kind enough to program it for me. Last night my car was "prowled", as the
sheriff's office put it. No damage to the car or apparent attempt to steal it,
but stuff on the inside, including the glove ...
AWD and tire blowout question29 Sep 2007 00:00 GMT4
Does having AWD make a tire blowout at high speed
any safer?
In 30 years of driving I have experienced my first tire blowout
at high speed.  It happened last month while driving in the left lane
Advise the noob...28 Sep 2007 03:30 GMT13
Thinking of making my next vehicle a used subaru AWD wagon, looking to
spend, lets say, 10-20K, but I'd rather stay on the low end of that.
So far I see that the 96-97 2.5 DOHC and the 98-03 2.5 SOHC have head
gasket issues, until replaced properly, which should be done by the
Loud noise audible at highway speed (never notice before)28 Sep 2007 03:00 GMT11
While driving home late last night on a deserted interstate, noticed
my 97 Brighton Wagon(AWD, 158,000 miles) making a notable deep noise,
coming from somewhere on the RHS of the vehicle.  Couldn't tell
whether it was front or back (just me alone in the car).  It did seem
Downsides to the 2003 3.0L 6cyl?28 Sep 2007 02:04 GMT6
Have a line on an '03 outback with the 6- any known problems?
What gas mileage compared to the 2.5?
Thanks-
Dave
Bolt at right rear track for driver seat won't come out27 Sep 2007 19:29 GMT9
92 Subaru Legacy AWD sw
I was at the junkyard where they had a 93 Subaru where I took out the
driver seat.  There was one bolt that refused to remove from the right
rear of the track.  There are 4 bolts all the same size, 2 on each end
Short Throw Shifter26 Sep 2007 15:37 GMT1
Anyone out there have any experience with a short throw shifter.....Will it
make life harder or easier for someone new to manual tranny?
awesome thread w/pics of auto-tranny torque bind failure26 Sep 2007 13:54 GMT1
I know the title is a little long - but this thread shows precisely what
happens in the wet clutch pack part of the auto tranny in a torque
binding failure mode;

EA82 Engine Vibration26 Sep 2007 12:49 GMT6
My 92 Loyale (recently purchased) has a very distinctive engine vibration
starting at about 65 mph/ (guessing 3500 rpm). I can best describe it as a
consistent cycle (frequency) of about 1.5 seconds and decreasing in
frequency proportional to an increase in rpm. This probably ...
Creak Noise When Braking25 Sep 2007 14:14 GMT3
For lack of a better term my car makes a creak noise or soft cracking
noise when applying the brakes but the noise does not seem to be
coming from the brakes but from under passenger side of car. When I
leave in the morning and make the same right turn while applying the
AWD light24 Sep 2007 22:01 GMT2
the manual says that the AWD light will come on if different sized
tires were mounted or tire pressures were too far different. Does it
tell you when the center differential is working, like it would if one
axel was slipping?
Will removing rear sway soften the ride?24 Sep 2007 14:49 GMT18
I want to make the ride more compliant, to be easier on my bod, and
wonder how much the sway bar might make me feel the bumps more? Hate
to reduce the handling, but want a more comfortable ride for now.
