Have two new 2008 Outbacks in the family and would like to know what
type of 5w/30 is recomended?  I believe they are not using any
synthetic oil but recomend 7500 mile intervals?  To me that seems a
bit long for straight oil.  Any suggestions as to what the dealer

Fuses: 1999 OB16 Dec 2007 17:30 GMT1
Several functions are failing for the driver:  No dome light when door
is opened, no door-open indicator on inst. panel, keys left in
ignition switch raise no alarm. Other doors don't have the problem. I
suppose the problem might be in the door switches, but I thought it is
my first snowfall in my Forester16 Dec 2007 01:05 GMT20
Last spring I bought a '99 Forester and was looking forward to see how
it would handle the snow. Well, yesterday we got it spades, about 25
cm of the white stuff! The car handle it like a champ, and I haven't
even put on the snow tires yet. I'm going to start calling my car
Beep after driving a while, display of outside temp16 Dec 2007 00:52 GMT7
I have a 2007 Legacy GT 2.5 Sedan, and, have been noticing that, after I
first start the car and begin driving there will be a "beep", and the
odometer display briefly flashes the outside temp, then returns to the
odometer display.
Mazda3 vs. Impreza15 Dec 2007 17:49 GMT6
Had my Audi stolen, may need to replace it, trying to decide between
the Mazda3 and the Impreza.  Other than AWD favoring the Impreza, any
clear winner here?  The Mazda is quite a bit cheaper, a big plus, and
better on gas mileage, but I'd love to know how it performs in snow
Front differential problems related to coolant leak?15 Dec 2007 14:38 GMT6
I've got a 2001 Legacy L wagon 2.5L automatic. About a year ago at 76K
miles one head gasket was replaced by the dealer under the terms of
the head gasket recall.
Now at 97K miles the car has developed a howl in the front
Rear differential protection plate for '07 OBS15 Dec 2007 04:35 GMT5
My dealer says a rear differential protection plate is not available
for my '07 OBS.
Is this true?
Is there an aftermarket one available?

BHG, 97 Subaru, PT 3...13 Dec 2007 07:23 GMT11
Hmmmm...anyone have any easy way to change the head gaskets on a '97 Suby
Legacy wagon?
The car is in decent shape and passed inspection; I don't think the BHG
did very much damage...yet.
how to get to rear Legacy SW lock12 Dec 2007 05:45 GMT2
I have a 1998 Legacy station wagon and the hatchback rear lock won't unlock.
I am quite sure it needs lubrication inside ...is it easy to remove the area
where this lock is? I think I can do it from the inside of the Subaru. I had
trouble with it off and on the past year, but the ...
termostat and overheating--'98 forester11 Dec 2007 20:11 GMT2
I have a high milage '98 forester.  After a long period w/ very steady low
temperature readings, I was 120 miles into a trip yesterday when it started
to rain.  I was driving up a mountain in 5th gear at around 2400 rpms and I
noticed that my gauge was getting hot.  It would then ...

I had today off since there was no work (thank God or whatever deity you
subscribe to, since it was a MISERABLE day!) and spent the day looking for

Where is temperature sensor?10 Dec 2007 23:35 GMT1
Anyone know exactly where the outside air temperature sensor is on a
2005 OBW 2.5i?
Mine seems stuck on one reading and I'd like to either give it a tap,
clean it, jiggle wires or maybe replace it.

I recently got a speeding ticket in my 2000 Subaru Outback 2.5 Auto.
I got the ticket on a very steep incline and was supposedly clocked at
77 mph in a 65 zone. I did not think I was going that fast and have
since tried to duplicate the 77 mph the officer said I was going on
