Brake problem?26 Jan 2008 12:33 GMT1
I have a '97 Outback.  It's been really cold here, and I've noticed when I
first hit the brakes, like when backing out of the driveway, the pedal is
very hard and nothing happens.  If I keep pushing it eventually gives and I
have brakes again.  Either that or let the car warm up ...
Clutch Pedal Problem26 Jan 2008 05:05 GMT2
Today my '91 Legacy L clutch pedal stopped returning. It only comes
back a couple of inches . I can return it with my foot.
Bought the car 2 years ago.
Even when fully depressed I cannot shift without shutting off the
electric drain26 Jan 2008 04:41 GMT2
Subaru Legacy 1990 sedan
There appears to be a electric drain while the car is parked/off.
Although there is power for the dash lights, when trying to start, the
starter turns once and then locks/clicks. Auto transmission locks and
Getting codes on a 94 Legacy25 Jan 2008 20:54 GMT3
I've been reading the group for a while and often hear the refrain
"check the codes".  I'm curious if anyone has had any luck reading codes
off a '94 Legacy.  I understand that OBDII started after 94 (IIRC 95).
So is there an economical way to get OBDI codes?
Passenger Side Front Brake Makes Noise24 Jan 2008 12:13 GMT1
I have a 2006 2.5x Forester and most every time I apply the brakes I
hear a click type noise not a squeal noise and its not a wear
indicator.  The problem was first diagnosed as a suspension problem
but no problem found and then it was determined that the rotor had

Converting from belt-driven fan to electric fan24 Jan 2008 03:58 GMT57
I want to convert my Subaru Hatch (1989 GL 3-door) from a belt driven fan
to an electric fan, in order to help it warm up faster in the cold weather
we have been having lately. I also believe that it may save a couple MPG
(the car gets <>21=>28 MPG depending on road speed and ...
Dealer scheduled maintenance work.....23 Jan 2008 22:54 GMT3
....compared to the scheduled maintenance work that is specified in the
manual.
When I go to the dealer they have "maintenance packages" that don't exactly
match that is which is specified in the manual.
Battery from dealership?23 Jan 2008 18:27 GMT10
Just had my car in to the Subaru dealership and it was recommended that I
needed a new battery. I can't quite remember the price (I was dealing with
another issue at the time that was more worrying - see thread below...). I
decided to hold off on the battery. So...
Forester dies on ther road23 Jan 2008 13:44 GMT7
Just got my daughter's '01 Forester back from the mechanic the other day
after replacing an O2 sensor (thank god it wasn't the Catalytic converter).
She drove it around for a day and took it to a party last night. On the way
home she was driving down the road the runs past our ...
Weak rear wiper23 Jan 2008 01:34 GMT5
Is there any way to increase the pressure of the rear wiper blade on the
window -- short of buying a new wiper arm?  It's a little too short to bend.

Timing Belt noise, 1989 Subary GL Hatch22 Jan 2008 20:01 GMT3
A couple weeks ago ai stopped in at a place where a guy has been selling
used Subys for about 15 years. The girl behind the desk came running out
and said, "I had one just like this!"
Picking the guy's brain, he mentioned that the timing belts one these cars

Well, 2007 *had* been good to me... my steering problem has definitely
disappeared. But.............
Tonight as I drove off to the video store with my son, the check engine
light came on, then blinked off, then on, then off... about 7 times. By the
Check Engine light on  & Cruse Control light flashing22 Jan 2008 13:41 GMT8
Need info for a 2005 Forester XT turbo  (USA).
I drove into work this AM without a problem.
After work, engine idled rough, had a steady check engine light,
and flashing cruise light (flashes 1x per second), virtually no power
Burning smell from engine22 Jan 2008 01:40 GMT6
I have a 2000 OBW with 140,000 miles.  When I park the car after a few
miles driving, there is a strong smell of burning fluid.  The local
repair shop has cleaned the engine compartment and driven the car, but
cannot find evidence of fluid leaking on to a hot surface.  Any ideas?
