I have a '97 Outback. It's been really cold here, and I've noticed when I first hit the brakes, like when backing out of the driveway, the pedal is very hard and nothing happens. If I keep pushing it eventually gives and I have brakes again. Either that or let the car warm up ...

| Getting codes on a 94 Legacy | 25 Jan 2008 20:54 GMT | 3 |
I've been reading the group for a while and often hear the refrain "check the codes". I'm curious if anyone has had any luck reading codes off a '94 Legacy. I understand that OBDII started after 94 (IIRC 95). So is there an economical way to get OBDI codes?

| Converting from belt-driven fan to electric fan | 24 Jan 2008 03:58 GMT | 57 |
I want to convert my Subaru Hatch (1989 GL 3-door) from a belt driven fan to an electric fan, in order to help it warm up faster in the cold weather we have been having lately. I also believe that it may save a couple MPG (the car gets <>21=>28 MPG depending on road speed and ...

| Burning smell from engine | 22 Jan 2008 01:40 GMT | 6 |
I have a 2000 OBW with 140,000 miles. When I park the car after a few miles driving, there is a strong smell of burning fluid. The local repair shop has cleaned the engine compartment and driven the car, but cannot find evidence of fluid leaking on to a hot surface. Any ideas?
