2003 Legacy Outback - Burnt grease smell - Not the boot30 Jun 2008 04:20 GMT6
Just so there is a record of this problem as a separate news tread.
The wife began to notice the burnt grease smell, so familiar due to the
inner CVJ boot failure.  As usual I thought, the boot must be torn, so I
ordered the boot kit.

RE: burning rubber smell29 Jun 2008 14:13 GMT7
Just started, but I can smell the burning rubber from the vents and see the
smoke for 2 seconds coming from the hood when the car is shut off, can
narrow it down when I pop the hood. Starting to worry me a bit.
it's on a 1998 Outback Legacy, any suggestions on where to start?
Automatic Transmission problem on a 98 Impreza29 Jun 2008 06:02 GMT9
The problem happens when I shift the car into drive, the car behaves
as if its in neutral. I sit there and rev it a few times and away we
go. The amount of times I have to rev it is getting longer now though,
although it is quite random how longer it takes to shift into gear.

Forester Different Sized Tires27 Jun 2008 17:00 GMT14
Where is the fuse on a 2003 Forester that converts the car from AWD to FWD.
I am getting 4 new tires, and I want to make sure I know how to turn off the
AWD if I get a flat.
What do you do if one of tires goes bad and needs to be replaced, say after

Hood Deflector for 04 Forester25 Jun 2008 22:09 GMT5
I'm thinking of getting one of those plastic hood deflectors for my 04
Forester. Has anyone had any experience with them? Good? Bad? Are they
easy to install yourself? What kind of hardware is involved? I'm
planning to drive this car for a long time and I'd really like to
Subaru Releases Exiga In Japan24 Jun 2008 18:30 GMT2
Subaru has officially released the Exiga crossover SUV / wagon in Japan.  It might not seem like such a big deal, but considering the fact that this is one of Subaru's newest vehicles and is essentially an AWD MPV that seats up to 7 people at one time, this is a pretty big deal ...
WRX Coolant Leak - No Obvious source23 Jun 2008 14:17 GMT5
While driving to work today (2004 WRX) had steam coming from under
hood with odor of hot coolant.  Stopped to investigate but found no
evidence of fluid anywhere in engine compartment.  All hoses tight,
temp gauge never rose, so couldn't have lost much.  Any suggestions on

Have a 2006 Forester with no visible condensate drip from ac and a moldy

It wasn't as bad as I've read it could be, since the filter came off
fairly easy, with a bottom cup tool, but things I read on the forum,

1997 Impreza Outback purchase advice21 Jun 2008 14:30 GMT1
I am looking at this car, auto, 177k miles... wondering what to look at in
particular when I go to see it.  I am planning on putting two car seats in
the back, so would also be interested to know how others have faired with
these in similar situations.  Thanks
fuel filter question20 Jun 2008 17:23 GMT13
Are fuel filters something you clean or something you replace when
they get dirty?
I have been running E85 for a thousand miles now, and they say there
may be gunk in there that the ethanol has cleaned out of the old car's
