| Code P0420-Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshhold Bank 1 | 30 Apr 2009 21:32 GMT | 35 |
Got the subject code for check engine light pulled at Auto Zone. Car is a '97 Subaru with 165,000 miles. Could this be the catalytic converter? Auto Zone person said it could be 0xygen sensor. How does on ascertain what the actual problem is?

| I still don't believe it! | 24 Apr 2009 22:32 GMT | 19 |
I have a 1997 Legacy L Subaru SW with 125,000. Car runs smoothly with get-up-and-go EVEN with the AC engaged. Sharp turns create a shuttering / intermittent lurching. I'm told by a trusted mechanic and transmission "experts" that the transmission needs replacing. The

| Head gaskets, Overheated engine, part II | 24 Apr 2009 05:41 GMT | 2 |
Wanted to get ideas from they guys who answered my last thread. I suppose you're wondering why I called you all here. Considering the car has 335,000 miles, I think I'd like to take the easiest way out. What's the easiest way to remove the heads without

| fog lights | 24 Apr 2009 04:32 GMT | 1 |
My 96 Legacy Outback has fog lights. They are quite pitted from road stuff flying at them. Does anyone know if glass can be fixed to make it smooth again, similar to the Lens renew product for plastic lens? Barring that, does anyone know where to get new lights? Please let me

| Nuts. Toasted engine? | 23 Apr 2009 16:33 GMT | 10 |
1997 Legacy L AWD wagon. Had an overheating problem. Tried the magic headgasket in a bottle (worked on my '89 Coupe)... Started it last fall and had white smoke all over the place. After using the Genie in the bottle I took it out for a ride, and it took a LONG time

| Permanent "conversion" AWD to FWD? | 21 Apr 2009 16:26 GMT | 16 |
If I were to disconnect the fuse that then leaves my Subaru with FWD what negative effects would there be. (After 12 years) I am thinking about this as a way to improve mileage (2 wheel engine braking vs 4 wheel?). Would there be any potential harm to the car making this a

| O2 sensor | 18 Apr 2009 23:55 GMT | 1 |
One more post while I'm on a roll ... 2003 OBS, 190000kms. My check engine light has been on about a year now. I checked it out then, it was front o2 sensor. Car was working fine, same gas mileage

| Uncle Ben discovers the knock sensor | 15 Apr 2009 23:20 GMT | 8 |
A month ago I had noever heard of the kinock sensor. Now I know that it is a valuable tool that everyone should be aware of. My 99 obw taught me about it through a code P0325, knock sensor ckt problem. I kicked that one upstairs to my faithful mechanic Dave, who

| Rust through above rear wheel wells | 15 Apr 2009 14:09 GMT | 10 |
My '97 Legacy Brighton wagon has completely rusted throughg the body directly over both rear wheel wells. A few inches across but spreading. This is a 12 year old car in an area that uses salt profusely, but I'm just curious if my car is an exception or if this

| Using spray brake cleaner | 03 Apr 2009 09:28 GMT | 7 |
My '92 Legacy needs new brake discs. My question is about the use of spray brake cleaners. The area around the disc is a bit dirty. I've never used spray cleaners before so I'm unsure about how to keep the toxic spray (and toxic dust) contained and not contaminate the whole ...

| Here it is...2010 Legacy! | 02 Apr 2009 22:40 GMT | 13 |
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/112_0903_2010_subaru_legacy_first_loo k/index.html Not bad, but nothing special either. I must say I am a bit disapointed. There is a new 2.5L engine, but making only 170hp, albeit at lower rpm, which is great.

| Rear wiper motor | 01 Apr 2009 04:11 GMT | 13 |
Firstly, I have to say I do love my car... a '97 Outback wagon. Some repairs have been on the costly side but that's another story. My rear wiper motor quit years ago (around 2001). It's not been a huge deal, but it would be nice to have it work but I just can't bring
