slow to downshift31 Aug 2005 19:03 GMT1
1997 Camry 4 Automatic  107K miles
The transmission shifts smoothly and is fine in every other way.  But
it is slow to downshift when accelerating and you must pretty much
stomp it to force a downshift.
Car care tips31 Aug 2005 00:04 GMT1
couple of suggestions from items discovered recently:
When draining hot transmission fluid into a plastic drain pan, and
dropping the drain plug - just use an inexpensive telescoping magnet

Strange Engine Symptoms...30 Aug 2005 00:05 GMT5
Car starts...  But when you hit the gas, you have to do it VERY gradually or
it seems to cut off all fuel flow.  I thought maybe a vacuum hose had come
off, but they all seem to be fine.  New air filter.  Newish plug wires but
definitely good.

1999 Camry LE, 4-cyl, made in Kentucky, Engine Light comes on, Code 0446
From reading the newsgroups, the first culprit is usually the gas cap.  I
replaced it, reset the check engine light, and then it came back on after 95
miles of highway driving.

Burnt oil dipstick28 Aug 2005 15:23 GMT4
Looking at buying a used rig. Noted that the oil dipstick had what
appears to be a hard glazed on "varnish" of what appears to be burnt
oil (dark brownish) all the way up the stick.
My 20-year corolla and 25 year-old tercel, both have "clean" dipsticks.
Effect of premium gas28 Aug 2005 05:58 GMT5
Since purchasing my 99 Camry SIX cylinder in 1999, I have used regular
unleaded gas, per the manual. The manual mentions how I could get "improved
performance" using Premium gas. I stand to be corrected but, here in Canada,
I believe the usual 3 grades of gas available are rated ...

She is concerned about the cost of the belt replacement, which is around
Reverse Jumpstart26 Aug 2005 22:39 GMT4
I need your help with something I experienced. My car battery died and I
called in a technician to jumpstart it. He tried to connect the incorrect
polarity (reverse jumpstart) but then corrected it. This blew off the max
