sound system on '99 camry17 Apr 2006 22:37 GMT1
I'm thinking of replacing the FM radio/tape player on my wife's '99
camry.
I went to Crutchfield, and saw this:

put some new speakers in... but...16 Apr 2006 14:31 GMT3
Ok, I went to Wal-Mart, and got a pair of Durabrand (yes, Durabrand)
4-way 6x9 speakers for $20.
They sound pretty good.  (I was finally able to get the rear seat out -
my Haynes showed me where there were two latches, and I just had to
88 Camry starts missing badly after 10 minutes 15 Apr 2006 21:21 GMT3
Its an 1988 Camry wagon , 4-cyl. Well, have made progress on some
problems. Have solved starter problem by temporarily jumping neutral
start switch, and have a good alternator now.  But now I find a new
one. It starts easy. It runs ok for about 10-12 minutes. There is just
what's recommended for lubricating hoses?15 Apr 2006 14:56 GMT7
Gonna be changing my radiator hoses really soon, and wondering what's
recommended to lubricate 'em so they slide into place.
Used vaseline to lube my air intake hose, then I heard that's not such
a good idea.
96 camry-steering slips during right hand curves15 Apr 2006 14:54 GMT4
Had new rack and pinion installed. Mechanic tells me there is nothing wrong
with car but cleaned and adjusted rear brakes. Brakes and steering are now
tight, but wheels still slip. It almost caused an accident during a rainy
night and i took it back again the next morning. Still ...
engine hesitates when you lift foot off accelerator14 Apr 2006 11:17 GMT5
my 2000 Camry V6 manual has just done 83,000 kms  (52k miles).   Had the
80,000 service done.  In the last 4 weeks or so it's been doing this
strange thing when I lift off the accelator at speed.   The car sort of
hesitates slightly...
Advice: sound of bad bearing 4-cyl engine14 Apr 2006 07:41 GMT10
It's a 1988 Toyota Camry 4-cyl. Has 197000 miles on it. The engine
runs fine, but there is a bad bearing somewhere in/on the engine. You
can hear it plainly at idle. Its the tell-tale whir/rattle of  a
worn-out bearing. Well, could be wrong, but sure sounds like it.  Its
Transmission Whine -- 2000 Avalon14 Apr 2006 07:05 GMT1
A couple of weeks ago, I posted a message about a whining sound from the
transmission of my 2000 Avalon XL with 75,000 miles. This is the car that
was apparently abused (not maintained regularly) by the previous owner and
had a sludged engine and clogged baffles in the valve ...
How do you access the rear speaker panel on the '96 camry?14 Apr 2006 07:04 GMT12
Haynes' description is terrible... it just has a picture, with the rear
seats down, two screws removed (did that), and mention of six clips.
I bent the six clips out of the way, but the rear panel won't really
move much.
strut bushings, '99 camry14 Apr 2006 06:53 GMT8
This generation of camry has a noisy rubber strut bushing - possibly
from the bushing drying out...?
Would it be a good idea to try and soften the rubber bushing with some
WD-40 from under the hood?
Belt and Hose Life14 Apr 2006 06:43 GMT8
How long do the belts and hoses in a Camry usually last?  Are
replacements as good as the originals?  Most likely I will use Toyota
parts.  My Camry is a 2000 model 4-cyl with 110K miles,  bought in
January of 2000,  apparently built in late summer of 1999 in Japan.
'02 LE paint problems14 Apr 2006 01:55 GMT6
has anyone had any problems w/ the paint on the hood roof or trunk area? i
noticed on mine it's in the early stages it's starting to have problems that
will cause flaking.
the color is black.
Advice for restoring 1988 model finish13 Apr 2006 17:48 GMT4
Another question on newly- purchased 1988 Camry wagon.  Its a dark
blue, I assume it is clear-coated?  It is not rusted, and I think
after a good wash job will look fairly glossy....but not " like new"
glossy. I have an electric car buffer.  What can I get that will best
speakers in '99 Camry?13 Apr 2006 04:33 GMT16
What rear speakers are installed on the '99 Camry?
I'm thinking of replacing the rear speakers in my '96, and I really
like the sound of the '99 ones.

increase in mpg (bit of a surprise)12 Apr 2006 17:54 GMT6
Just filled up my '96 this morning, and was surprised to see it made
30.0 mpg this fill-up.  Before, it had been in the 28-29 range.  The
strange thing was, I think I drove it more in the city *this* time than
I did when measuring 28-29 mpg...
