Is asbestos still contained in modern brake pads, or have
they switched to something else?

20R no fire30 May 2006 23:06 GMT1
I have a 76 Toyota pickup with 196000 miles. I went to start the truck
and it would just turn over. I suspected the points, which I gave a
slight adjustment, and it just turned over again. I checked the coil
wire to the distributior and there was not a spark when I tried to
2000 Land Cruiser 100K Maintenance30 May 2006 16:43 GMT1
My dealer says as preventative maintenance I should have the 90K maintenance
at $450+ and a timing belt at $700+. Also a brake job at $400+ each for front
and rear. Are these bonafide prices?
this sealed transmission thing... (2006 Tundra)29 May 2006 16:30 GMT13
It kind of spooks me.  I'm told the sealed transmission never needs
nuthin', forever... does not even have a dipstick.    I'd be inclined
to at least change the fluid at some point!!    What the person who
wants his truck to last forever to do?
Removing transmission from 1984 Longbed Pickup29 May 2006 12:43 GMT3
Because my clutch is slipping I'm removing the transmission from my 1984 Longbed so I
can replace the clutch parts.  I've looked at two different manuals (one online, one my
Toyota Truck 1984 Repair Manual.  Both have descriptions for removing the trans, but
there are items that ...
FYI :  Tech Bulletin on my '04 Tundra29 May 2006 02:02 GMT4
Just an FYI for the NG....my '04 Tundra access cab is in to the dealer
for its 25K service (basically, I get ripped off for an oil change <g>
!).  During the course of the write-up, I mentioned an annoying chassis
"chirp" coming from somewhere behind the cab <g>  I figured they'd ...
Land Cruiser GPS Problem28 May 2006 06:48 GMT3
Has anyone ever heard about a dash mounted GPS system in a Toyota Land
Cruiser (LC) going bad? The LC is a 2002 model and the GPS just went dead a
few weeks ago. Toyota tells me it can't be repaired; that it's a closed unit
and it will cost 5,400$ to replace.  It is only 4 years old ...
What would you get?28 May 2006 05:43 GMT11
OK... I just came across $6,000.  I want a 4x4 of some kind.  I've been
looking at older trucks in that price range.  I've also been thinking
about getting an older truck (for about 1,000 - 2,000 dollars) and
putting about $4,000 into it.  I'm not a Toyota expert and I'm not a
Parking brake sequence28 May 2006 04:30 GMT3
What is the proper sequence to apply/release the parking brake and the
transmission Park position?   That is, should the parking brake be
engaged before switching from Drive to Park?
Don't put those 4runners away wet!28 May 2006 04:08 GMT12
Another dealer story
Just got my 4runner back from the dealer. I request my work be done by
the most senior guy, master mechanic, who is also the foreman. Figure
if paying $89/hour then get the best.

Do the extended cab trucks have reverse opening rear doors for easier
access to the rear seats?

truck shifts out of O/D 27 May 2006 15:39 GMT1
My 92 toyota pickup has been shifting out of overdrive after driving
about 20 minutes on my daily commute at about 70 mph. Any ideas?
Does Toyota make tow wiring kits?24 May 2006 16:32 GMT6
I can find this out Monday morning from the parts dep't, but I'm curious
now. I've got an 02 Tacoma, and I've been using Hoppy wiring kits for my
trailer light harness. The second one in 3 years just died. I don't feel
like spending more money on crap. I'm wondering if Toyota ...
'84 22R fuel injection upgrade?24 May 2006 16:00 GMT2
Sometime ago I was unable to find a computer for my truck so my mechanice
used a computer from a fuel injected Corola? for my pick-up.  Besides the
obvious injector housing and injectors what other changes have to be made to
upgrade my engine to fuel injection?  Are there any ...
