| 4Runner diff shot - please advise | 16 Dec 2005 17:12 GMT | 5 |
My wife's was driving her 4Runner (2002 SR5) . As she tried to disengage 4WD (at about 25mph) the smoke started pouring from underneath the hood and the truck sounded like it was revving too high, although tachometer read normal, somewhere at 2000 rpms.

| Check Engine Light | 16 Dec 2005 16:25 GMT | 2 |
I own a 1995 Toyota Avalon, that has 171k miles on it. The problem I'm having with it is that it started to idle rough and there's a misfiring sound that's noticable from the exhaust tailpipe, consequently the check engine light lit and remains lit. I figured that maybe the cause of ...

| 2004 Toyota Matrix engine rattle | 16 Dec 2005 13:01 GMT | 7 |
2004 Matrix 5 speed, approx 33K miles. Recently have been getting a rattling which appears to be coming from the engine. Sounds somewhat like bad gas, low octane. Took it to the dealer and they said I had a bad tank of gas. After a couple of new tanks the noise is still

This is my first time needing to buy snow tires. Do I simply buy the same size as my current wheels? I have the opportunity to buy 4 barely used tires for $150 bucks - Bridgestone BLIZZAK WS-50 tires. (195/60QR14) - that were on a jetta.

| remove climate control unit | 15 Dec 2005 15:17 GMT | 1 |
I have a 2000 Solara and the the button on the climate control unit doesn't work. I turn the button but nothing happens so I'm stuck with "cold". Great for those ski trips I have planned...If I press the button the display still toggles between inside and outside

| 1994 Corolla timing belt revisited - service question? | 15 Dec 2005 01:51 GMT | 1 |
I posted almost 2 weeks ago about my Corolla and how we lost a just-replaced timing belt due to a tensioner that had seized less than 2 weeks after the belt was replaced. Well, I've placed 2 phone calls to the service manager since last

| Need help removing speaker grills? | 15 Dec 2005 00:21 GMT | 12 |
I plan on replacing my 6 1/2 factory speakers in the rear of my 96 corolla. But I can't get the protective grills that cover the actual speakers off. Am I supposed to do it from inside the car or through the trunk? And what sort of tools can pry these things off?

| 2000 Avalon - SLUDGE Story | 14 Dec 2005 21:17 GMT | 75 |
I bought a used 2000 Avalon XL last April (2005) with 70,022 miles on it. CarFax showed it has one previous owner (a private lease) in the Los Angeles area. Shortly after I had it, I noticed blue/grey smoke on startup, but only occassionally. The Toyota dealer could not repeat ...

| 1998 Avalon, noise ~2 seconds after startup | 14 Dec 2005 06:04 GMT | 20 |
About 2 seconds or so (not precisely measured) after starting my '98 Avalon, there is a "ka-chunk" noise, like something locking into place or starting up. It's not terribly loud, but it is audible inside the car. It's not related to shifting into Reverse or Drive (it happens
