The subject says it all, this is in the southwest, where temps never drop below 25 (night) in winter and summers hit 100+ 3 months of the year. Is it okay to use 10w30 instead of the 5w30 mentioned in the manual ?

I just received a recall notice from Toyota asking me to get my dealer to reload my 2002 RAV4's ECM with new, "corrected" software. At issue apparently is a misleading ON condition of the malfunction indicator light. Fair enough, though I presently do NOT have the false ON

I have a 2000 4Runner Limited with about 34000 miles. Still running on the original battery. that would make it 7 years old this January! I live in the northeast and although it's been starting every morning in the cold, it sounds like it's saying "the end is near!"
