I have a Toyota Avalon (1996 I think).  There is an idiot light that came on

Are there any known problems with the Toyota 3 speed transmissions,
particularly the one's in the 95' Prism's? I test drove a tercel with a 3
speed once and it sounded like I would have needed to get it rebuilt if I
