Regarding air filters. The engine air filter does not seem to get
very dirty so a once a year change seems to be fine. But the cabin
filter DOES get very dirty very quickly, in 5000 miles or less. This
does not seem to impede air flow. So the question is: when to change:

i have a 96 corolla and i have a p0401 code, which is a exhaust gas
recirculation (egr) insufficient flow.
i checked the egr valve and the vacuum switching valve (vsv) with the
vacuum pump and it shut the car off. then i removed the spaceship
