I have noticed on the odd occasion a whistling noise coming from the
off side front wheel.

Also when I brake there is a kind of grinding sound (brake pads?)
Megane front end noise/vibration31 Oct 2005 21:55 GMT3
I have a 99 Megane 1.6 16V coupe and have a problem with a noise coming
from the front end and appears to be drivers side.  So far I seem to
have had all the other common faults associated with ownership and have
changed both rear bearings, both front driveshafts and one of the ...
Would a jumpstart charge a battery?31 Oct 2005 21:00 GMT9
If I connect the jumpstart to the car battery and leave it connected,
well the power from the jumpstart transfer into the car battery?
Therefore if the power is drained from the jumpstart into the car
battery, would that mean the car battery would now transfer the power
Renault Espace: removing the steering column31 Oct 2005 20:16 GMT1
There's a bit of play in the u/j at the bottom of the steering column of
my '99 Espace, the local Renault dealer is quoting both arms and both
legs to fix it - has anyone here attempted it and lived to tell the tale?

01 Transit FWD31 Oct 2005 19:57 GMT15
I've just been informed that the fwd Transit front wheel bearings need
to be replaced as a sub-assembly (more expensive, of course), and by the
sound of it need a press and a special puller.
Anybody know any different? It looks like my only course might be to
Aargh - THAT Ford Escort again - help!31 Oct 2005 18:10 GMT5
Further to the previous about the Ford escort CVH 1.4i that broke a cam belt

Ford Focus central locking problems31 Oct 2005 10:21 GMT6
2001 Focus 2.0 ESP. Every now and then when I'm driving the central locking

plip the key to lock the car the passenger door doesn't. Any ideas why and
how easy is it to fix?
Easiest method fitting Carlton 2L timing belt ?31 Oct 2005 10:21 GMT2
My father in law has decided to fit a new timing belt on his 1989 (!)
Carlton. He has the Haynes manual but this follows quite an involved
procedure. He asked me to see if anyone on this group has any tips/advice on
the easiest/simplest way of doing this job ?

I turned it off to the acc position.. he said that it needed to be on

DVD Players Maybe OT30 Oct 2005 22:29 GMT3
I have just put in a DVD player for the kids as we are in the car a lot. its
a Goodmans  from Argos that goes over the headrests.
Problem is the audio output is that low they cannot hear it on the motorway,
so I have plugged the supplied phonos into the rear of the stereo (Kenwood ...
Brake pad retaining spring30 Oct 2005 14:58 GMT15
How safety critical are these?
I have a slight problem in that the front pads need doing on the Passat,
but the pad retaining spring snapped when I removed it.
I've now booked it into my local garage to do the job as I have a
MoT Query (again!)30 Oct 2005 12:58 GMT4
I'm in the very unusual position of having a car that's coming up for
its first MoT. Normally my cars are much older than this so the query
has never arisen for me. Can I have it MoT'd in the month before its
third birthday, and get a 'period of grace' before its third birthday,
does anyone collect auto express?30 Oct 2005 12:26 GMT23
A few months ago they tested soldering irons and there was a gas one which
got best buy, can anyone tell me the name of it?
Cylinder head - no dowels - is this a problem?30 Oct 2005 01:09 GMT5
I'm about to fit a recon cylinder head to the Ford Escort that I mentioned a
few weeks back (broken cam belt - valves got she*gged) problem is that the
old one went off with the two cylinder head to block retaining dowels in it
and (you've guessed it) the new one is here without the ...
How do you tell if a turbo works?29 Oct 2005 17:04 GMT17
So, because my mundano needed a little attension for the MOT [1], I
bought a new car, a Saab 9000, with a 1985 cc turbo engine.  It does not
seem as fast as I had expected, though it was a fairly late drive back
from the auction and I have no experience of large turbo cars so ...
