I want to pop an air bag06 Jan 2006 00:25 GMT27
I need to fire a couple of seat mounted airbags.
I will buy seats from a vehicle dismantler - find a couple of wires
that look as if they may be going to an air bag, stand well back and
whack 12 volts down them. Result should be a loud POP and air bag
Results of Air Bag test05 Jan 2006 21:09 GMT3
Well I have now fired two seat mounted air bags under more or less
controlled conditions.  Not sure what Duncanwood was mumbling about but
all it takes is a low current 12 volt source connected to to the
appropriate wire and BANG, off it goes.  Smells remarkably like a very

Tyres? Replacement options?05 Jan 2006 16:48 GMT9
Need to replace all my 4 tyres - 195/50 R15 - any ideas please bearing in
mind that most motoring is chugging around locally (unfortunately) with a
few motorway runs each year? It seems that there are shedloads of cheap
tyres that appear to be general purpose so not sure what to ...
Immobilisre Problem Rover 4505 Jan 2006 16:19 GMT7
Today when I tried to lock my car using the keyfob nothing happened so
I used the key.
On returning to my vehicle and gaining entry with the key, once the key
was turned in the ignition the alarm sounded and when that eventually
E reg Golf cooling problems05 Jan 2006 14:14 GMT5
I am not the world's greatest DIY mechanic, and am having some problem
diagnosing a cooling problem on our E-reg golf.
The mechanic (the real one, who appears to be on holiday!) recently replaced
the heater hoses as they had become clogged and we were getting no heat
Battery totally dead without warning05 Jan 2006 08:04 GMT8
Tried to start the car yesterday for the first time in a week, and the
battery was totally gone - not a cough, not a glimmer on the dashboard,
zip, nyet, nada. Gone.
Left the battery on charge overnight, and today all is well.
Glow Plugs - changing and finding out which one's dead04 Jan 2006 23:50 GMT5
My bird's 106 diseasel's playing up. Seems like one or two glow plugs are
dead by the way it's starting.
1) Can I test them with a multimeter? They don't seem to be noticably warmer
than each other when you touch the tops of them (assuming the things that
Knackered Bleed nipple - MK2 Golf04 Jan 2006 22:14 GMT19
I had a nice afternoon pissing about in my mate's tiny garage trying to
bleed the brakes on my Golf GTi. The driver's side front bleed nipple is as
rusty as a rusty thing, and someone's already had a go at rounding it off at
some point in the past, meaning I can't get a spanner ...
Puma tail light out04 Jan 2006 19:53 GMT4
Aaaargh!
It's one thing after another at the moment. I dscovered this morning one
brake light out and also my high level brake light not working. It was too
much to assume they were linked and replacing the easiest one (the normal
Puncture Repairs04 Jan 2006 19:45 GMT10
I have a nail in a nearly new front tyre on the wife's Tigra.
Now, I've always replaced tyres like this, especially on the front, but
am I being over cautious? Are there any modern repair techniques
readily available in the High Street chains I should go for. ( Due to
Wheel cylinder overhaul04 Jan 2006 18:33 GMT23
Having now fitted new wheel cylinders (see recent Corroded brake pipes
thread), do I chuck the old ones out, or is it worth buying a repair kit
to overhaul them and keep them as spares.
Or should I find something better to do with my time

Fiesta Front Fog Lamps04 Jan 2006 11:18 GMT7
I have an 03 plate Fiesta - I have bought a pair of front fog lamps and a
switch - how easy are they to fit?
Can I just knock the blanking plates out in the bumper grill thing?
Is the wiring-loom likely to be already set up to receive the wiring - like,
Halfords = a bloody rip-off03 Jan 2006 23:19 GMT20
My dad went to get a headlight bulb for his van today in Halfords. It was
£12, but the queue was so long he put it back on the shelf and went to a
motor factors instead, and got one for £2!
