auto boxes that alarm ?17 Jan 2006 11:07 GMT3
Hi, after quite a bit of head scratching it seemed to me that a reasonably
fairly cheap and reliable car to buy next would be an early Toyota Yaris.
Nobody seems to have many complaints about it (that I've seen anyway) and I
thought I would go for the automatic gearbox.
EAC Fail17 Jan 2006 09:32 GMT1
I have a 2004 Fiesta. About 1 minute after leaving work yesterday I was
pulling away in first gear when the car shuddered before I could fully raise
the clutch and I lost power. The backlight which normally illuminates the
fuel readout etc on the dashboard started to flash and it ...
Battery Charging17 Jan 2006 08:53 GMT14

money)

It states in the manual you should disconnect and remove the battery before
Alarm Remote17 Jan 2006 00:03 GMT8
I've seen a few links on here in the dim and distant past for alarm remotes.
One of my Rover remotes (two round buttons) has packed up. Changed battery
and resynced it as per the manual, but still no joy.
Seems the going rate for a new one on some sites is about £60 which seems a
Retapping holes16 Jan 2006 16:41 GMT7
Confession time: When I had the sump off my golf (oil pump change), one of
the threads for the 20 or so sump bolts got a bit mangled. Obviously, if the
whole lot's mangled, I'm stuffed, but if it's not too bad, can I retap it
with the same thread as standard? OTOH, would I cause ...

a dealer.
Peculiar Road Markings16 Jan 2006 08:30 GMT15
On a road near to my house, they have recently painted a series of
bizarre markings.  At several points along the road are painted two
white squares next to each other, both coloured red.  One has a bicycle
symbol in it and the other has the number 6 in it.  I was wondering if
Paging SteveH16 Jan 2006 06:13 GMT2
Steve,
how far away are you from Neath and would you be able to check out a
car for me there?
It's a Eunos Roadster with a turbo conversion so it may be worth the
Kia Picanto Brakes?16 Jan 2006 01:00 GMT36
Recently had the misfortune to have one of these as a loan car for a day
whilst mine was being serviced (the joys of a Saab/Kia specialists!).
Is it usual to have brakes so sharp that you're almost catapulted
through the windscreen touching the pedal to stop at the edge of the
What could cause mayonaise under oil filler cap?15 Jan 2006 23:34 GMT17
When I first viewed Mrs S's prospective purchase, a 98 R Hyundai Accent
Coupe, it had great dollops of mayonaise under the oil filler cap, so paid
special attention to all the other signs of HGF, but found nothing else. I
still bought the car after negotiating a suitable discount ...

noise whilst idling...15 Jan 2006 21:18 GMT5
I have a Nissan Micra 1995 NCVT (automatic) 1.0 litre as a cheap
run-around-town at the minute... it has 70,000 miles on the clock, and is
perhaps not in the best condition it could be ;-)
I recently went over a speed-bump, and ever since (perhaps not connected)
