My trusty never-let-me-down Escort has let me down :-( The car has been starting and running fine. Then the other day, I went to start, turned the key, it fired for a fraction of a second then died. Turned the key again, starter turning fine, but not a hint of firing.

Okay..... Golf CL 1.8 Mk 3 1994, petrol. I've recently noticed a noise that didn't used to be there. I start up from cold, and usually in between changing from 1st to 2nd there's something between a squeak and a rattle.

I am getting a 4 year old car which will have 12 months RAC guarantee which can be upgraded to a gold version. Are these guarantees worth the paper they are printed on and is it worth upgrading it to gold? pete

Ok - back to slagging the dealer off again... SWMBO has ordered a new key as we've lost one and just having one between the two of us heightens the chance I'll go off abroad with it in my pocket etc - so she phones the dealer.

I have a 15 yr old car and the car headlights arent very good even with the high powered bulbs I put in. People have said often the wiring deteriorates so the voltage drops to the headlights. How do I test this, I have a digital multi meter.The headlight bulbs
