The belt make some squeeze noise when the car is cold, and the rev counter doesn't work when noise come out. There are two belts, one is for the water pump (tight), the other is for alternator(loose). Is the loose one making the noise?

Is it me or is the tescos' diesel prone to foaming up ? It took 20 mins to get the tank full this morning! I wander what causes it 'cause other people seemed to be having no problems.

I have an Astra 1.6i GLS 16v and wonder if someone could just clarify which is cylinder 1,2 etc.. if i am facing the engine compartment are they numbered from left to right, or from right to left. ie. is the spark plug on the left number 1 or is it number 4? might need to

Many thanks for your suggestions. The thermostat was failing to open---Im not impressed with Volvo quality-a £3000 engine jeopordised by a £5 component.I suspect this is a pretty common fault on Volvos.

Was thinking of buying an older (1995) Frontera diesel. Can anyone tell me how easy diy repair is to the standard faults and how cheap are spares. I believe some people fit ISUZU diesels, are these the same as the standard Vauxhall diesel as far as accessibility etc.
