Equivalents to a car's CO2 output?26 Mar 2006 01:21 GMT3
Anyone know any?
I remember Clarkson saying that the few drops of petrol which can be spilt
when filling a car is equivalent to so many thousands of mile's emissions
for a modern car.
18 yr old car insurance ?25 Mar 2006 22:07 GMT27
Can anyone recommend a cheap car insurer for an 18 yr old female.
Forget 'Sheila's wheels', dearest quote so far. Also done tesco, asda, post
office , Churchill (best so far).

Wiper parking25 Mar 2006 21:55 GMT9
So, why would a perfectly functioning rear wiper suddenly stop parking
itself and just come to rest wherever I happen to release the lever, the
lazy bastard?

Thanks for your advice in the past.
After blowing the head gasket at the end of last year and then getting
it replaced.
I ran around in the car for a bit too long before changing the oil.
Wrong Fuel25 Mar 2006 03:25 GMT8
Dear Group Members
I have inadvertently put the wrong fuel in my 1947 Whittington
Thrungebucket. Mistaking the battery filler holes for the firebox door,
my manservant shovelled in 3 buckets of finest Welsh anthracite. Of

Maintainable diesels25 Mar 2006 00:43 GMT58
I recently sold my Rover 218 Turbo diesel, and bought a 2001 Astra
1.7DTi, but I'm alarmed by its total lack of maintainability - I can't
even set the tickover because it's "drive by wire".  I'm also beginning
to find all the horror stories about expensive pump failures on these
Exhaust Problem?25 Mar 2006 00:36 GMT7
I have and 1996 P reg Vauxhall Astra 1.6 GLSi  the rear end of the

sound is not there when you first turn the car on and only starts up
after a little while or if you rev the car, you can then hear it all
Not so perfect24 Mar 2006 23:44 GMT5
The 1993 diesel pug has grumbly brakes when you apply them hard. The
thing rattles a bit and the pedal vibrates. No noises that would worry
me just the brakes being a bit finicky. I did a couple of laps of the
local bypass this evening with as much hard braking as I could manage

Espace Diesel Smoke24 Mar 2006 20:53 GMT2
Arrived at work after a 6min drive, very cold.
Reversed to parking space and saw bluey smoke under the car.
I turned it off and jumped out. I first thought it was the exhaust or a fire
but it was coming out of a small 1/inch dia pipe parallel to the exhaust
Budget - Vehicle Excise Duty (VED)24 Mar 2006 20:53 GMT23
I've had a look at the website:
  <http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/budget2006/pn02.htm>
It seems that the new VED Band G (CO2 >226 g/km) only applies to new cars
registered after 23 March 2006. This means that those of you who already own
