Going to be looking at some second-hand cars this weekend, and including (for the first time) diesels. I've always avoided them in the past because I know where to look for problems on a petrol engine, but know little about diesel.

| Just how full is a 'full' tank? | 04 Apr 2006 16:14 GMT | 28 |

Before the Scrote goes to the breaker's yard I want the half tank of petrol out of it and into SWMBO's car. The obvious thing to do is syphon it out into a can and pour it in. I can't see any problem in disconnecting the fuel line of the scrote

I just got a call from a pal whose wife is panicking because a warning light has come on on the dash. It's "a little engine with a flash of lightning through it." Not being a driver, I've had to give her description of it. Any ideas what it is, and if she is likely to be

| Auto stuck in P | 03 Apr 2006 10:32 GMT | 16 |
Twice in the last six months, my R reg Vectra 2.0 has stuck in P. The brake lights did not work and the problem on both occasions was due to a blown fuse. Once the fuse was replaced, all was fine again on the transmission and the lights - until the next time.
