On driving home at 70mph no problems then w/o warning engine cut out no bang, no smoke no trail of oil, car wouldn't re-start. Got towed home, have checked compression on all four cylinders ... nothing. Timing belt is OK any ideas, I haven't got a clue what it could be????

I've always been suspicious that some garages don't do all the work they charge you for. One tip I've heard is to put a small scratch on your oil filter. Then if they just wipe it clean rather than change it, you'll know.

Hi, and help! I have an x-reg mondeo, 16v zetec. The car idles very erratically when the engine has reached temperature, and the rev counter goes mad, until the engine backfires and dies and this is getting worse.

Can anyone answer me a few questions; Are the immobiliser rings around the ignition barrel specific to the ECU or can they be swapped from one car to another as long as the keys are swapped to?

Got a '94 1.6 (Zetec) Escort. The temperature gauge only works occasionally. Most of the time it doesn't move at all. I've disconnected the temp sender (at the thermostat housing) and grounded each wire in turn - I gather this should make the gauge move all the way up - no effect ...
