On driving home at 70mph no problems then w/o warning engine cut out no
bang, no smoke no trail of oil, car wouldn't re-start. Got towed home,

Do Garages Do What They Charge You For ?17 May 2006 11:40 GMT24
I've always been suspicious that some garages don't do all the work
they charge you for.
One tip I've heard is to put a small scratch on your oil filter. Then
if they just wipe it clean rather than change it, you'll know.
RE: XReg Mondeo VBad idle17 May 2006 08:42 GMT5
Hi, and help!
I have an x-reg mondeo, 16v zetec.  The car idles very erratically when
the engine has reached temperature, and the rev counter goes mad, until
the engine backfires and dies and this is getting worse.

My car has covered just over 500 miles now but I have noticed grey smoke a

Received the above from a mate with a 1988 Celica GT4 turbo.
The 500 miles is on an engine he reconned himself. Rebore, new shells, valve

Once you have sysprep'd a Windows XP image and copied it to the rest of the
PC's in the room can a Unique Databse File be used for the computer names?

Can anyone answer me a few questions;
Are the immobiliser rings around the ignition barrel specific to the

Wax alloy wheels?16 May 2006 21:21 GMT2
Is it a good idea to wax alloy wheels using ordinary car wax to protect them
from corrosion?  Is it necessary to buy the stuff specifically for use on
alloys?

Still got this problem. Can't get the car booked into Ford until next

the same problem with his Fiesta. It turned out to be the lambada sensor.
Once this was replaced the problem disappeared. Someone ...

Fixing Minor Car-Scratches!16 May 2006 14:11 GMT6
Hey folks,
Today I have managed to acquire some scratches, looks like the clown who
done it made it a bit harder for me to cover-up than I first thought.
The scratches appear as white, but can be rubbed away slightly, but it's
Powering laptop etc in car from inverter?16 May 2006 13:34 GMT54
I'm thinking of buying an 12V -> 240V for the car, to enable me to
charge/run devices such as a laptop / mobile phone(s) / AA batteries for
gameboys & camera etc etc while on the road (one at a time!); they seem
to be as cheap as chips these days and this would enable me to use ...
Escort Temp gauge16 May 2006 10:23 GMT5
Got a '94 1.6 (Zetec) Escort. The temperature gauge only works occasionally.
Most of the time it doesn't move at all. I've disconnected the temp sender
(at the thermostat housing) and grounded each wire in turn - I gather this
should make the gauge move all the way up - no effect ...
