Oil consumption rate?03 May 2006 23:31 GMT37
What's a normal rate of consumption of oil in an engine per, say 1,000
miles?  I've just noticed that my car used a litre of oil in the last
1,000 miles.
Battery question may be dumb but..03 May 2006 19:03 GMT4
My Lucida battery has gone and I realised my 12v leisure batteries I use at
my field are the same size... can I use one in my car?
Andrea.

How to read ECU fault codes?03 May 2006 18:00 GMT6
I used to have a Rover 800 series Sterling and the ECU was mounted (IIRC
'cos it's been a few years) under the passenger seat and had a big red LED
visible through a little window. All you had to do was count the flashes of
the LED then look it up in the workshop manual - no need ...
Hazard light switch03 May 2006 11:38 GMT11
I've just replaced a Ford indicator unit which includes the hazard light
switch.  The old unit had an illuminated switch which flashed in unison with
the indicators.
The new one is fully functional but the hazard light switch is not
Sierra question - flexible steering coupling03 May 2006 11:12 GMT2
Any of you lot remember replacing one of these? The flexible rubber
coupling at the bottom of the steering column on my P100 looks well
dodgy as I've just discovered half way through replacing the steering
rack. Bloke in Partco reckons it's a Ford main agent part.
Great, car damaged !03 May 2006 07:26 GMT10

while I was parked !!  For goodness sake, one from a breakers could only be
a fiver or so.
Sorry, I just needed to share.
Vauxhall Astra G03 May 2006 05:20 GMT5
I have a Vauxhall Astra Sport (g model). It's only a couple of years old.
Recently my mate gave me diagnostic software for it, which allows me to view
the cars information on my laptop.
Can someone tell me if this car is OBD1 or OBD2 so I can purchase the
Auto transmission gear selection03 May 2006 00:36 GMT5
Hi all, I'm having some difficulty selecting reverse gear, also drive
appears to engage when neutral is selected.  I've been googling around for
some info and from what I've found it seems that the transmission shift
cable may be out of adjustment or the transmission fluid ...
Diesel Rev Couters. How....03 May 2006 00:13 GMT14
... do they work?
Since there's no ignition and hence no source of 'pulses' where are
the engine revs measured?
Surely the Rev counter on my Focus Diesel isn't a mechanical
05 ford fiesta steering problem02 May 2006 22:20 GMT3
steering problem with the fiesta, when turning and braking in low gears

intermittantly... any ideas?
Rover 24 1.4 - juddering, over revving02 May 2006 19:05 GMT3
I have a Rover 25 1.4 petrol that has been juddering when I am
maintaining a steady speed or ease off the accelerator. Also, it has
just started over revving to about 2000 revs and then falls really low
(almost cuts out if you don't rev it). The miles I'm getting out of a
306 Air Con02 May 2006 16:24 GMT4
Can anyone give me some advice on a non-working aircon unit.
I turned it on last week to test (in preparation for the really hot summer I
am hoping for), and although the lights on the button are all working, the
air is still warm.
New car, flat battery: causes?02 May 2006 15:52 GMT24
New car to me that is: 3 years old exactly; got it three weeks ago. It's
a Toyota Corolla 1.4 T2; previous car was a Toyota Yaris: best car we've
*ever* owned, hence we stuck with  Toyota. The car is kept garaged when
not in use.
Scratches on every panel but no rust - how to treat them02 May 2006 08:32 GMT6
I'm considering buying a three year old Ford Focus from my brother but
it was vandalised a year or two ago and has a scratch all along one
side, over the bonet and over the back - probably about 20 feet long in
total.
