MOT / road tax "leeway"15 Jul 2006 22:03 GMT34
*NOT ME* before anyone suggests it :-)
I know someone whose MOT ran out today (they thought it was next month)
and their tax is due at the end of this month. The earliest they can get
it booked in is likely to be Monday...
Vectra Clutch Rattle15 Jul 2006 14:18 GMT1
Managed to fix the non starter and now have another problem!
When we lift the clutch and as it hits the biting point there is a
squeak/rattle.  Sounds exactly like the noise when someone is using
those drills to dig up a street!
Strange Charging problem.15 Jul 2006 14:05 GMT16
Well, strange to me.  This has been deliberately posted to UKRCM for any
auto sparks to muse over.My bike was not charging its battery especially
when running with the lights on.  So I checked out the excellent flowchart
here - http://www.electrosport ...

Cleaning the headlining on a 1995 Rover 416 Mk115 Jul 2006 01:14 GMT4
Evening all,
My wife's given me back her 1995 Rover 416Si (nice!) after I bought her a
new car. However, she's frequently left the sunroof open in the rain which
has stained it.
Sticking Fuel Cut off Solenoid - ZX Diesel15 Jul 2006 00:45 GMT7
The fuel cut off solenoid is sticking on my ZX diesel, especially when the
engine is hot. I've checked
this by taking one of the injector pipes off and cranking the engine over -
nothing comes out. Pouring cold

Vectra Diesel - Starting Problems14 Jul 2006 21:16 GMT8
I've had a good dig around previous topics and have managed to narrow
down to a few causes but need a little help.
It's a 98 R reg and has 120k on the clock.  There have been a few
starting issues lately but it would eventually start after a good few
ZX Diesel Again14 Jul 2006 18:45 GMT2
After my other posts about the Fuel cut off solenoid sticking, I've come
across another
problem - if starting hot and the solenoid is not stuck, the car needs
turning on the starter for at least 10 secs, as though there is no fuel
What's that thing on the wing mirror called?14 Jul 2006 17:02 GMT10
and where do I get one?
I've seen some cars with a small convex mirror attached onto the
extreme edge of the wing mirror. I'm not sure what they're called but
they allow you to see cars in your blind spot. A lot of the newer cars
Are you still twiddling your thumbs thinking of getting some new tyres?14 Jul 2006 16:12 GMT6
Well, don't.
"...rises are expected to bite consumers later this year...cost of replacing
all the tyres on an average family car will climb by as much as £50, while
some high-performance sports models could cost £300 more..."
HT lead cleaning tips14 Jul 2006 14:32 GMT4
Re: Cleaning my HT leads. Do I need to remove them completely, wipe
clean with a rag, then refit? Or can I just wipe them over in the
engine bay, without removing?
The spark plug ends of the leads go deep into the engine block -- I am
vauxhall corsa creaking clutch14 Jul 2006 13:19 GMT2
I've got a 1.0L 12V 3-cylinder corsa B. Had a new LUK clutch kit put in about
7 months ago at 60000 miles, done about another 8000 miles on it since then.
Clutch cable snapped at the pedal end last week; I've replaced the cable and
the pedal (plastic cable end retainer at top of ...
boot problem14 Jul 2006 11:17 GMT6
Odd problem with the boot on my mark2 mondeo, 1998. The Boot has become
extraordinary heavy, and wont stay up.... I presume one of the two pistons
(?) use some kind of hydraulics to balance the weight and allow a smooth up
and down action.
