Primera screeching noise24 Sep 2006 20:52 GMT18
When I start my Nissan Primera 2.0 petrol there's a screeching noise which
sounds like it's coming from the alternator area
It disappears after about 5 minutes and there are no obvious problems -
anyone an idea what this is?

misfiring/stalling Volvo 740 (1989 2.0)24 Sep 2006 14:03 GMT10
I've just bought this 1989 740 Estate. Lovely drive along the motorway
but every so often the engine would backfire and was totally
unresponsive. I changed the spark plugs and the HT leads but it seems
to be getting worse so much so that the moment I take my foot of the
Mondeo warning lights24 Sep 2006 00:08 GMT2
Am I correct in thinking that the ignition/battery and oil pressure
warning lights are just that little bit brighter (1.4W?) than the
others (1.2W)? We are talking 1997 Mk.2 LX, BTW.
diesel opps23 Sep 2006 20:29 GMT12
Last night I managed to inject 4 litres of green into my diesel tank before
realising the error.........
I then topped it up with 46 litres of the proper stuff.....
car ran OK for 40 miles but what can I expect today.....
Rover parts - where?23 Sep 2006 12:16 GMT4
Is there anywhere I can order new Rover parts online that have a large
stock and aren't breakers?
Audi 80 TDI 1995 Cambelt Snapped23 Sep 2006 12:11 GMT7
My cambelt snapped today at 135k miles - I only bought the car two
weeks ago and have covered about 1,000 miles :o( Can anyone tell me if
this is a "safe" engine and it's simply a matter of fitting another
timing belt or if it's likely I've done valve/piston damage. It didn't
2005 Passat Rear Light Change23 Sep 2006 10:46 GMT1
I've just cracked the external plastic of my 05 Passat Estate.
How easy is it to replace the whole light housing? Does the bumper have
to be taken off, or can I get one from a breakers yard and fit it
myself?
Welding gas (Argon/Co2) suppliers23 Sep 2006 01:18 GMT4
I currently rent a cylinder of "argonshield universal" from BOC for MIG
welding.
This is an Argon/Co2 mix. I seem to get through a cylinder about once a
year, so every year have to pay for a re-fill, a handling fee and a years's
BSI (Built-in Systems Interface)23 Sep 2006 00:42 GMT1
I've been told by the Citroen dealer that I need a new BSI in my
2000-reg (mk1) berlingo, obviously I want to save money because the
part is not cheap, I was just wondering if I can order and fit this
part myself or is there anything complex that needs doing when
Current Focus- boring to look at?22 Sep 2006 20:28 GMT6
Is it just me or is the current Focus a backward step aesthetically? The
first one was original and still looks fresh. The new one is completely
anonymous and boring looking. I don't think I've ever been as underwhelmed
by a new model. Not that it's a bad car mind, just not ...
Vastly overfilled with oil..22 Sep 2006 20:06 GMT39
Neighbours boy bought a 205 GTi with the GTi-6 engine, thing is, it's
totally OTT on the oil. I took it out for a shot earlier and noticed it
smoking slightly. Didn't take much notice as I thought it was the fumes with
it being de-catalysed.
Name that tool22 Sep 2006 16:20 GMT11
My brother's looking to do something to the transmission on his
scooter (I didn't ask and I don't want to know.)
Anyway, there's a tool that stops an assembly from rotating whilst you
undo the centre nut, it can be seen in panels 1b and 2 of the
Diesel Pressure Line22 Sep 2006 15:43 GMT3
Modern diesel engines don't have a traditional injection pump,
apparently, but a pressurised line.  Can someone tell me how this
works, what is the pressure and how is it maintained?
TIA.
